Bah! Bad news... looks like it's probably going to be a miscarriage. We had an US 2 weeks ago and couldn't see the baby yet, but the gestational sac and yolk sac were both there. Doc put us at 5w2d after that visit based on the measurements.

We went back yesterday for another US and saw the baby but no heartbeat. They're pretty sure it's a misscarriage, but apparently there's a slim chance that it won't be.
Baby measured 3mm, and doc said you can usually see the HB at that point, but 6mm is the real point where you definitely would see it, so we're going to hold out just in case.

We're going to Nevis in the Carribean next week which makes the situation kind of difficult... don't want to end up in a chop shop clinic if she starts bleeding heavily.

Overall, we're not completely crushed or anything, we understand it's common but it's definitely disappointing. We're also morans for telling everyone when the pee stick came back positive Lesson learned...

I'm mostly just concerned about her right now and making sure she stays healthy throughout the trip. Won't get my hopes up about the baby but there is a chance. Next US will be 2 weeks from yesterday... will keep you all posted.

Just got back from the prenatal appointment with my wife. I heard the baby's heartbeat which was pretty amazing. It's flying at 160 beats a minute which is normal I guess. It took the doc a little while to find it so that was a little scary but other then that everything is fine.

Two more months and i will find out the sex of the baby!!!!!!!! Walking on cloud 9 right now.........

I've been a lurker for quite some time now and figured there couldn't be a better first post than one annoucing some baby news, right? Well the long time girlfriend and I found out this morning that the 'little one' we've been carrying is going to be a girl! Due date is tentatively set for November 6th.

I know it's probably said by every new parent, but I feel like I'm the luckiest guy in the world right now. I never thought I'd feel something like this but it is without a doubt the greatest emotion I've ever felt.

Hey guys I just wanted to stop by and get your thoughts on being in the room when the babies born. I'm kinda nervous about it, I imagine its going to be pretty intense. I just want to get some opinions so I know what I'm walking into.

You're the dad, right? Of course you have to be in there. If you think it's gonna be intense for you, how's it going to be for your wife/gf/baby mama?

You're really just a hand/leg holder and glorified stop watch unless the **** hits the fan (it likely won't) in which case the doctors probably will tell you to gtfo. Until then, you're in there.

Its really like nothing else in the world and you'll be missing something pretty special if you're not there for it.

I never considered missing the birth of any of my children to be an option. I'd have to be physically restrained, incapacitated or dead to miss that.

Yea not being in there isn't even an option to me, I wouldn't miss this for the world. Just wanted to hear from some more experienced people what it was like in there. Just me being nervous I guess.

Our first, a girl, is due Sept. 18. I'm very excited and more than a little terrified.

Quick question on names: My wife is insisting that we not tell anyone the names we're considering before the baby is born. She's worried about potential reactions from people, and thinks that when the baby is actually here, those reactions may be more muted. (And the names we're considering aren't all that strange, to my mind. We're not naming her Xena or something.)

Anyone else have that kind of gag order?

We kept it hush hush while deciding, but once we had it, we let it out of the bag.

More my wife than myself. I always freak out that someone else is going to use a name we like for their child so I feel the need to call name dibs with people we know that may have kids in the near future.

My wife's due to bear me my first son at the end of July. Yesterday, I sent her out to pick me up some beer. Some woman in her checkout line gives her a look and inquires of her, "I hope those aren't for you?" To which she replies, "I gotta wash the crack down with something."

I love my wife.

Seriously though, in my defense from appearing a cad, she has no problem with it, and was going to the store anyhow. She's a sweetie. She has friends who have had similar experiences in the past. One of their lines was "Hey, I'm drinking for two now." And there's also "Oh it's ok, I'm not sure I'm keeping it."
