To everyone having kids congrats. Saw the thread title and had to read since I am somewhat of a pro with 4 kids- 3 girls and one boy, from 10 years to 8 months. Wife got tied during c section on last one. It's a cruel joke that she still gets pms after being tied, but as I said to her last night - no pills, no rubbers, and no more kids!

But the arrival of each one was exciting, and they make each day interesting and worth living.

I admit I don't visit this thread as often as I should.

I say that because every time I do, I get a smile or two.

Congratulations guys. My daughter Nina will be a year old tomorrow, and my first son, Noel (well, David Noel, really) is due in six weeks.

Hands down the greatest thing I've ever done. I could have been a hobo or something, and would have been entirely redeemed simply by virtue of adding my seed to make this awesome child.

@ LondonBroil: What a great expression. Let's go, Dad!
@ Rushmore: So jealous of all that hair. We're all bald until the age of two.

Olivia in her Easter dress, 18 months old. She loves puppies and books. I found this in HK. Could it be more perfect?

She's a huge mimic. Watching her listen to and repeat animal sounds on the ipad is the funniest thing I've seen in years. Cukoo!

She's also Nana's big helper, carrying food in from the freezer, pushing the microwave button, pushing her high chair into place for lunch, etc.

I could go on, but I'll spare you. Grandbabies are crack for old people.

After 13 years together and 1 year of marriage, she's pregnant - on the first try. (meaning no birth control). Sorry, I had to throw in the fact I'm batting a thousand.

We find out the sex on the 16th. She "knows" it'll be a boy, I'm hoping for a girl. Name will be discussed in earnest after we find out the sex.

I'm leaning towards "Sophia" but she refuses. She wants "Vivian". I would go with "Daenerys" but she just looked at me funny. A shame she had no idea what I meant.

I'm excited, moreso than I ever thought I'd be. Going to turn this kid into a beast. Just hoping for a healthy baby, I'll take care of the rest.

lol.

nymbler is a good site for baby names, FWIW. Put in Sophia and Vivian and see what it spits out. Name agreement FTW.

You might be interested to know that the Social Security Administration just released the list of popular baby names for 2011, and Sophia is number 1 for girls. Vivian is #154, and has been rising in popularity over the last decade. BTW Mason vaulted into second place for boys, while Jacob is still number 1.

Batting a thousand is a serious beat if it means you're only getting laid once a month

Bahahhhahhaahahah. It's going to be a girl!

I think we came up with the name. Cora Lin (Lin is the middle name). She wanted Vivian again, would not accept Elizabeth (her cousin's wife's name), Sophia (she doesn't like some girl named Sophia at her work or something), or Jacklyn (same thing, girl she works with). So we went through a bunch of names on the phone and I just started blurting out names.. and she liked Cora as well as I did. Lin for her grandmother.

She was slightly dissapointed it wasn't a boy, but I'm really happy because I think boys have so much pressure on them, especially so in Asian cultures. Plus boys in my family are a pain in the butt. Besides, girls bring more of a loving atmosphere in a household than boys, but that's just my opinion.

I'm so excited.

Isn't Vivian a very stereotypical Asian girl's name?

Congratulations Wil!

I agree with you that you're fortunate to have a girl. Our first, Nina, has been a real revelation, and it is virtually universally accepted that "girls are easier than boys."

So of course now I have a boy on the way in three weeks.

But really, in retrospect, I wouldn't have wanted it any other way. It's been hard, but it is really a blast, seriously.

Best of luck, and thank you for not choosing Dakota or Montana or Madison as the name.

Not really. Lilly or Lin/Lynn or is. Not sure about Vivian. I've never known an asian girl named Vivian, but I've know 300 Lins.

A friend of mine named his son Aiden and his daughter Avery. They were both the most popular names the year he chose them, for some reason that kind of bothered me. I'm unsure if I wanted a "cool" or popular name, but I guess Cora sounds like on the cool side. I just liked the name, and it sounds kinda different without being immensely popular.

Yeah, Dakota or Montana or something like Brooklyn would have been an automatic no. Too trendy.

In 2000 Cora was ranked 481 in the US, and last year 204. So it's not ubiquitous, but it's been a recent steady climber. Lin (with that spelling) has not been in the top 1000 in years, if ever. Lynn, of course, is another story. Cora hits the sweet spot--not "strange" or unfamiliar, easy to spell and pronounce, not likely to be five Coras in the average kindergarten. So congratulations on your impending fatherhood and on your excellent name choice.

As a Mom who raised both, I'd say girls are more difficult beginning when the hormones hit.

I don't CLAIM to be the original 2p2 LittleOldLady; I AM the original 2p2 LittleOldLady. I lost my account in the recent debacle because it was linked to an obsolete email address that stemmed from a small ISP that was driven out of business by Katrina. I inquired and was told that the only way I could reclaim my old account was to come to Las Vegas and verify my identity. Obviously that is not practical, even though I do go to Vegas periodically to visit my family. When I lost my account I lost my ability to send and receive PMs. Over the years I occasionally communicated with various Lounge posters by PM, but at the moment I can't do that. I am assuming that making a few posts on the subject of onomastics and babies (both of which are interests of mine) will not be considered controversial or troublemaking or ban-worthy (I hope). BTW I LOVE reading about y'all's little ones.

As for raising boys/girls, I have but one son, and raising him was easy-peasy and a joy--even in his high school years. He went off to MIT when he was sixteen, so any late teenage mischief that might have occurred went on out of my sight. I think he turned out pretty fine if I do say so myself.

I didn't mean for the wording of my question to be offensive and apologize if it seemed so. Seeing as your last post under the original LittleOldLady account was June 27 of 2006, you can understand why it may be a curiosity for a version 2 to pop up, especially days after so many users had to choose new account names.

In case you aren't aware, they have made options other than flying to Vegas available to reclaim accounts, and it seems to be working for most. Here:

Mod note: Myself (SGT RJ) and Bobo Fett are also trying to help out with the stranded user backlog. BF's email is listed under his profile, and I can be reached at sgtrj1@gmail.com. Please provide as much proof as possible to demonstrate that you are the owner of the account you are trying to access: DOB, infraction/warning history, people who will vouch for you (along with contact info for them if necessary), email address of that account (if you know it but can't access it) anything else you can think of that make it obvious that you own the main account.

And another mod is willing to help out as well (thanks gtpitch!):

Thanks for the info about possibly reclaiming my account. I'll give it a try. Obviously I stopped posting publicly after the, um, brouhaha in which I wasn't personally involved and didn't want to be personally involved. If I can reclaim my account, I will probably go back to sending the occasional PM and otherwise keeping my head down. Despite my public silence, I have been a faithful reader all these years.
