If you wait until she's 21, you'll have less to worry about during her teen years...

Hey all, I'm proud to announce the future arrival of chicago122, scheduled for 03/13/2010.

I've been following this thread since last November, when we first learned my wife was expecting. Unfortunately, and like several other people here, our first pregnancy did not work out. But, this time around everything looks perfect! We're in our 11th week, and doing well.

Thanks everyone for sharing your stories...

I went to one about a month ago and it was horrible. Especially after a 10 hour work day. We walked out after about an hour.

On another note, How difficult is it to do this infant potty training? Is it something that requires a ton of work?

i kept with the "people have been having babies for millions of years without classes" strategy. that said, the cpr course is only a couple hours and gives some good piece of mind. i wish i could get the grandparents to take it

It was pretty easy with my daughter. It did require someone paying close attention to her almost all of the time for the first couple of months, but that shouldn't be a problem unless both parents have to go back to work quite early.

The CPR course is definitely worth it. Even if you've taken CPR before, the rules have changed in the last few years (much more focus on compressions).

People have been having babies for millions of years, sure, but we're way better at keeping them alive, healthy, and happy now than we were even 10 years ago.

Most couples that I have delivered that have taken the "classes" forget everything when they get to the hospital. Teaching is a big part of my job.

I'm legitimately surprised by that Mrs. Utah. I thought the entire point of those classes was so that when the time came, it would all just be automatic. I realize it's an incredibly intense moment (a looooong moment), but I'd think the habits would just kick in. Surprised.

your surprised people that go to one class forget what they've learned? Did you go to school at all?

My wife crossed into her third tri-mester yesterday. Name is picked out, nursery is 2/3 of the way there and major stuff should be finished this weekend... things are moving along well.

However, does anyone have suggestions/tips I can pass along to my wife for sleeping? She's using a body pillow, but is still having trouble sleeping comfortably and her hips are sore every once in awhile. (She thinks it might be because of our pillow top mattress...) Anyways, as we've ("she's", really - I'm sleeping fine ) still got a good while to go, I thought I'd ask and see if anyone had any suggestions.

Thanks.

Congratulations!!

My only suggestion would for her to get used to it and wake you up all the time during the night and make you lose sleep as well. Might as well get used to it now because the days of getting a good nights sleep are almost over anyways.

So really I have nothing useful.

As for cpr: I'm red cross cert 1. I don't believe people (especially babies) are in good hands. Baby cpr is friggin hard. When I was practicing, i think I slapped the face a few times. Best advice I can give: resist the urge to shake the puppet.

Baby cpr is all compressions. Never ever breath into a baby's mouth.

First of all this is a great thread and thanks to all for being informative and friendly.

My wife and I are expeciting TWINS on 2-10. It has been an amazing experience already and it's only beginning.

I was under the impression that most couples went to multiple classes on a weekly or bi-weekly basis. I figured this was in effort to have it become "habit" or "instinct" once they get into the delivery stage. I mentioned this in my post.

Also, my surprised people what?

dcasper, you can put me in the green.

Yesterday I became a father. My wife had been one week overdue and went into labour on Friday afternoon. After some complications she delivered the cutest little girl there is. Her name is Lina Marlene (pronounced roughly 'Leenah Mar'lehna for most of you). There were some complications for her as well so she is in neonatal ICU for monitoring now. Everything seems to be fine though.

Important facts:
22/08/09 girl (mädchen) #1, 50cm (19.7 inches) and 3550g (~7lb 13oz for the metrically challenged among you).

Thank you! My wife and daughter are still in hospital, but Lina has left ICU and is in my wife's room as of today. They will be here on Friday and I am happy that my wife is the light sleeper in the family...

Fish congrats on becoming a grandfather. But your daughter's name and hospital are on that picture are you sure she is okay with that?

My wife doesn't even want me to post an anonymous picture of the little one. Maybe I can persuade her that it isn't such a bad idea, so youu can all see how cute german babies are.
