Thanks for listening. Forgive the fumbles please. I'm no pro but I like the way this session came out. I think it's the most accurate and precise representation of the sound that I'm trying to produce.

Recorded something new today. One of my all time favorite songs, not my best effort, but I wanted it uploaded quickly, so meh.

Haven't done as many YouTube covers as I used to, but here are a couple I did recently. First a jazz piano thing, and then a small tribute.

Jabonator,

I very much enjoyed listening to both of your covers. Great job!

Fab, my love, let's write a song together.
I'm trying to imagine what all those fingers can do.

Two weeks ago when I did the Chicago song, I also recorded something with song, not particularly meaning to upload it, but rather to see what it sounded like. Well, I decided to upload it anyway. I figure one video featuring my singing per year is fine, right? It's another Tim Minchin song, a lovely christmas ballad which is actually pretty great (the original (link), that is). It's kinda long and kinda slow until you get to the end, but I hope you enjoy it, let me know what you think.

I absolutely love Tim Mincin! My bestie and I used to binge his stuff. Good job on this one!

Duly noted

Man, I haven't been in this thread in quite a while. I've been pretty heavily invested in a rock/metal recording project so haven't made much time for piano. Maybe I'll get around to this kind of thing again soon.

Uploaded another piano/song thing yesterday. It's an Elton John song, not one of his most famous ones but a really beautiful song. The piano arrangement is actually pretty closely based off of an arrangement I found off an old website which I think has been defunct for basically a decade now. It was this one guy who really liked Elton John and who had transcribed select performances of his down to the very note. It was pretty incredible and very well done, and honestly possibly the single biggest influence on my piano playing to this day. So thanks, guy who used to host that eltonscafe.com site

ETA: If you want to hear what the piano is "supposed" to sound like, it's transcribed off of this performance from 1998.

ETA2: Oh, new forum? Sorry for the bump guys.

Just saw this thread. Looks like it got parasitic-wasped a long time ago so I'll go ahead and post. It's not a hijacking anymore if the jet already blew up, right?

I'm looking to record the whole American song book, jazz standards and put them on youtube in the form of solo piano.

Working on this Latin style. The piano is a percussive instrument at the end of the day. So a solitary player with the right ear can do a lot to recreate the feel of an entire band. That's one of the things that sets the instrument apart from the others. Even on the guitar, it's difficult to really get the same kind of vibe as even a three-piece band. But on the piano, you can pull it off.

If the intros on any of these make you feel like you've just been driving a semi truck down I80 for 20 straight hours, just fast forward to halfway through. It gets more exciting.

happy new year. few fumbles, some double and triple stops, some triplets thrown in for fun, and even some 7 beat measures to mess with your mind.

Jabonator,

I basically never check this thread any more, but it was quite interesting to hear your take on a song I had already recorded only 20 or so posts previous. Apart from making it clear I should really, really get some proper recording equipment, once you remove that aspect, I found it quite interesting to listen to the piano of your version, as I've felt we've been playing reasonably closely matched types of songs for several years now, if that makes any sense. I'm hoping 2018 will be the year when I really put some effort into making some youtube songs and try hard making them sound good, because I've felt jealous of the sound of your songs for quite a few years now. Anyway, I enjoyed listening to your version of this Tim Minchin song a great deal, thanks.

I uploaded one new song to youtube since the last time I posted here, which I may as well share, and it only serves to show how old this thread actually is, as it's a remake of a Disney song I shared here several years ago. As the case is with all of my year(s) old stuff, I dare say it wasn't very good, and that this version is quite a bit better. Let me know what you think.

I think I nailed some of these this time and threw in some randomly timed experimentation in which I briefly stumble upon the melodies from "River of Deceit" by Mad Season, and "Perry Mason" by Ozzy.
