Cool man. Not familiar with the song but I like it.

I can play VH Jump on keyboard. But the video and audio are going to suck. I will try to record it and upload it maybe tomorrow. I suck though.

Alright this thread shouldn't die like this. I suck but I recorded this today. Plenty of errors and there are parts that I know I don't play 100% accurately but I learned it like that and it's gonna be hard to fix. I can't ever get the solo to sound perfect or clean. A lot of the notes kinda mash together instead of standing on their own.

Sound and image quality is bad b/c I recorded it with a digital camera since I don't have USB capability to link directly to computer. Played at 130bpm which I think is within 1 bpm of the actual record. When I first started playing it felt super fast. Now when I practice I go at 160bpm or so. Keyboard was like $80 at Target. Setting: SawLeadG, which is the closest sound I have on my board. Oh yeah I'm not singing b/c I have a ****ty singing voice and also b/c I can't do both at once. If my form blows it's b/c I never took lessons and just learned by watching other YT videos.

Not bad for someone who never took lessons or had training of any kind.

Jump is one of the tunes that I'm kind of ashamed for not knowing. If you're both a rock and synth fan (which I am), it's kind of unsaid that you should know it. One of these days...

Thank you. Unfortunately I'm too lazy to get lessons or anything; I mostly just enjoy messing around on it/guitar/drums. I have found that I tend to do better at the keyboard than I ever did at guitar, though. And I'm better able to figure a tune out on keyboard than on guitar for some reason. I seem to hear the notes better.

Jump is certainly cheesy so for a good player like you there's no reason to know it but I have always loved the song since I was a kid and once I saw how easy the main melody was I started trying to learn it. I also like that you can play it through the entire song.

I kind of improvise the parts at 1:14 and 2:00. Most YT players do more complex stuff here but when I learned it I kept it simple and never went back to see if I can play the more complex parts. There is a quirk at 1:41 that EVH throws in that I hated having to learn but once you get it it makes it sound much better since you know it's how the song actually sounds.

The part at 2:31 is fun to play it's all the black keys. In the song it's pretty buried behind EVH's guitar solo so I don't even know if I'm playing it right timing wise but the notes are correct. The last part of the solo at 3:02 is 4 notes: G, C, D, G (higher octave) that I'm supposed to play in both directions (ascending/descending, etc.) but I can't really do that cleanly so I play it as descending notes the whole time so that's wrong. I don't know music terminology so no idea if this makes sense.

At 3:44 I like to mess around a bit for the 4th and 5th time through playing the G-note, I play G-B-D by separating the 3 notes as I think it sounds kinda fun but that's different from the song.

It is not hard to learn, though. The solo is definitely the hardest part but everything else is just very repetitive pieces you put together. There are some good YT vidz out there of people with better keyboards doing a lot more fun stuff with it. If you do learn it I'd love to see your take on it.

I'm working on Kashmir right now as it's another one I mostly know. Just trying to figure out what notes to play during the violin parts of the song where the main riff isn't playing. Maybe I'll upload what I got tomorrow I don't know.

I had learned "Sail" by Awolnation a while back but kinda forgot it so I can probably re-learn that and put it up here.

I looked through your channel the other day and enjoyed a lot of your stuff. Especially your Fur Elise and Air on the G String. Air is perhaps my favorite song and I'd love to learn it. I think I can since it's slow and not complex but that bassline sure takes a walk. I'm used to playing songs like Kashmir, which is just double D notes, or Jump which the bass is double C notes over and over. Oh yeah when I first started Jump my left wrist would get super tired from pounding those C-notes without rest. Heh. Took a while to get used to. But the left hand moves quite a bit on Air. I'd absolutely LOVE to learn it, though. If you can point me to a good tutorial I'd be thrilled.

Glad you liked the vids. One of these days I'm going to learn the second half of Air lol. It's not too difficult, but yeah the left hand is pretty active. One of the things I love most about that piece is the fact that it turns traditional arrangement around a little bit in that there's phrases where the bass plays like melody while the melody plays like bass. Next to Beethoven's Pathetique and Moonlight Sonata, probably my third favorite classical piece to play.

I think this was the vid I learned Air from. My two cents on learning it: tackle the left hand and right hand parts individually. I started with the left hand since it's very prominent in the beginning and didn't even focus on the right hand for hours, after feeling comfortable with the left. Since the left hand is mostly quarter-notes, if you get that down first it will give you a good sense of timing when you begin to add the right hand.

Jab,

What equipment (camera in particular) are you using? I'd like to get something that would provide decent results.

I've got a Sony Handycam that's like 5+ years old. Nothing special, and no separate mic.
