It's so easy to take good photos when you're somewhere amazing, haha.

Just FYI, after using a nikon D70 for 3 - 4 year, I just downgraded(upgraded) to a D60. Greatest purchase I've ever made.

Going to post some pics later when I'm home.

Hey Guys,

Took a few pics while I was in Guyana in South America, here are the crappy unedited low res versions. Some balancing and sat. helps a lot

Tappy, is the 'glow' effect around the islands real or something you edited in?

Just downloaded lightroom, started to play around a bit and got this

Anyone know how to use lightroom to select different regions of color and turn the rest B&W like is done in this photo?

I just bought a digital camera. =D Never really used one before except for just random "Here let's take a pic okay hold this button? Got it" type stuff.

Canon SX10 IS. I like it a lot. I was going to get an entry-level SLR with a standard lens as well as a macro but:
- this ends up being about 40% cheaper
- flip out LCD screen is critical

So I left my house, walked to my car and hit the road.
I saw a lake, which lead to a stream. Then I went home.

I shot all of these in manual mode. No Photoshop work was done other than resizing from 1600x1200 to 1200x900 for the internet. I resized the panoramic shots as well.

Almost all shots are shot at ISO 200. It was really, really, really hazy that day but there was still enough natural light not to go any higher.

Some shots were shot with a slow shutter speed and high aperture and others were the opposite. *shrug* I just did what looked good on the LCD and it's kind of hard to judge. I took 246 pictures on my trip and came back with ~90 that I liked =D

While we're at it. any advice on resaving for best quality and size? My camera will not save in .raw mode(afaik this is not really a beat) I think only jpg. I saved some shots as JPG(the original ones) and they came out like garbage compared to png. The following shots, however, look fine in JPG. What's the deal? The png shots are ~2megs while the JPGs are ~1/4 of that.

Any advice for this iso/aperture/shutter speed stuff? Does it look like any of the originals should have been shot with different settings? I'm not so worried about the indoor shots because I wasn't really going crazy with them and indoor lighting with a point n shoot is always a dum beet anywayz

i click on "all sizes" on my photographs, grab the URL of the size I want, and paste that here. then i grab the URL of the main photo page and insert it as a link in front of the static image. i also move the / URL code after the image so the whole thing becomes an active link.

Admittedly I haven't read this entire thread. I read pages one and eight and didn't see the info but maybe you guys can help.

I have a Canon SX10 IS(point n shoot)

is there anything I can add to it or am I stuck with what's there? I'm looking for something like a macro lens.

Sorry, I don't remember the aperture or shutter speed I used. I know they were both taken in ISO 100. Three exposures were used for each (-2, 0, +2 EV). I have a Canon Rebel XSi which I just got about a week and a half ago. First was with a tripod, second was handheld. Both were taken with the 18-55mm kit lens. Tone mapped them in Photomatix, and then did a few more things in Photoshop CS3 (curves, saturation, unsharp mask). The location was my front and back yard here in the Missouri Ozarks.

i like the picture but what's the reasoning for using such a fast shutter speed? Also isn't the iso a bit high? Seems like you have enough light~
