Not at all. Frank Zappa was a very talented and creative and unique and individual musician, same with Smoosh. He had integrity, taste, and style, same with Smoosh. He wrote influential music that was uniquely his, same with Smoosh. He has produced great music that I love, same with Smoosh.

I didn't care for Nirvana at all (still don't), but I can see the total picture of Cobain's contribution to art. He was an artist whose poor abilities in everything concerning music made something millions of people could identify with. I can respect that. In some ways I'd consider that genius, but I'd say the same things if someone tried to claim he was as musically talented as Beethoven. Sorry, but Rape Me isn't on the same musical level as Beethoven's 9th symphony.

I can respect that you like Smoosh. I can respect that you like them as much as Zappa or even more than Zappa, but to assert that they are on the same musical plane as Zappa is blasphemous to the name Zappa.

A snippet from our last gig imo

That whole ****ing song was pretty much a trainwreck up until that point. The drummer was a fill in and we didn't get any chance to practice before the gig, so things were pretty out of sync here and there, but we grooved there imo.

Pitch problems varying to +/- 30 cents is not opinion. Time varying to +/- 20 bpm is not opinion. Sure, you can argue that singing in tune and playing in time are not musical attributes, but no one will take you seriously.

Playing behind (or ahead) of the beat isn't the same as playing out of time. The difference is pretty significant. The clips you posted of them indicate time issues, not playing with the time.

Smoosh? They sound pretty on time to me imo.

I don't want to get caught up in a bunch of trivial arguments. Different strokes for different folks. I will say though that technical proficiency alone does not make a great musician or great music. Just look at Ynwie Malmsteen, he's ****ing terrible.

he def isn't terrible afaict. he sounds like he has some classical training too. not sure about the technical aspect of his guitar playing, but he is very musical.
