Sorry it took so long to get my last pick posted.

Round 9 (Final Pick - 10th round pick was traded)

Bill Murray

Bill Murray will be playing the character of Simon, an older man, a disbarred lawyer, and he is aspiring to be the most worthless drunk in town. Despite being a total degenerate Simon is a close friend of Milo's and sometimes acts as Milo's sidekick. Largely Simon is a negative influence on Milo, sort of a devil on the shoulder type scenario going on. However, there are moments in the story where Simon provides moments of great clarity for Milo. They have a complicated relationship as it may seem like Simon is holding Milo down throughout most of the story. Near the midpoint of the story Simon is working a case for Milo doing some surveillance and an important incident occurs which acts as the catalyst to both inspire Milo to change (for the short term - until incidents with Helen put him back into the gutter) and move the story forward. Despite spending most of the story ****ting himself and being a miserable drunk, Simon provides the story with most of it's brevity and is an important part of the hero Milo's journey. I feel Bill Murray can embody the role with the needed mix of both humor and despair.

ok the thread seems pretty dead so i'm going to make an executive decision.

everyone can just post their final pick/write up whenever they want.
if someone takes the person you wanted, tough beans choose someone else.

we will never finish at this rate, so just post whenever you want.

i'll be back later tonight to do my final pick up and write up.

thanks to everyone who stuck around and participated throughout, had some great picks and write ups, and i can say sincerely that i wish i could watch everyone of the adaptations from this thread.

cheers.

ps: no need to PM anyone after you do your write up obv.

The Bible

Director: Luis Buñuel

Mary: Jodie Foster

Joseph: Sir Ian McKellen

Eve: Katharine Hepburn

Jesus: Brad Pitt

Moses: Burt Lancaster

Sa'rai/Sarah: Dame Helen Mirren

The Serpent: Marlene Dietrich

Editor: Sergei Eisenstein

God: Fritz Lang

Cinematographers: Robert Bresson & Conrad L. Hall, ASC

FL was a director who had more than one acting credit including playing himself in Godard's Le mépris. It is known he "epitomized the stereotype of the tyrannical German film director." Perfekt.

RB, also mainly a director, started as a photographer who published Notes sur le cinématographe (Notes on the Cinematographer). He had a few things to say about cinematography:

"The eye solicited alone makes the ear impatient, the ear solicited alone makes the eye impatient. Use these impatiences. Power of the cinematographer who appeals to the two senses in a governable way. Against the tactics of speed, of noise, set tactics of slowness, of silence."

CLH will be assisting with the technology. He will also be shooting a few scenes befitting a man of his talents:

Spoiler:

LB, SE, FL, RB, and 20 more will write the script.

Other cast members:

Noah: John Huston

Abraham: George C. Scott

Pontius Pilate: Jack Nicholson

I'll list the other writers and some of the stories they'll write along with additional casting later.

Round 10

Final pick! I'm gonna let Clint choose whoever he wants for music, costumes, set direction etc. as he can do that better than me. I will cast one more (minor) part.

For the role of Balph Eubank I am choosing Bill Maher

Balph is a minor and pretty much insignificant character so who better to represent him than a minor and insignificant celebrity/actor?

Balph is a writer and a media type. He is a lackey to the bureaucracy and one of their biggest yes men. He spouts nonsense all day long which makes him dangerous since he has the public's ear.

This wraps up my draft and it was fun although we lost a lot of steam here at the end.

I wish the 70's version of this movie would have happened. They had Clint cast as Hank Reardon, Robert Redford cast as John Galt and Faye Dunaway cast as Dagny Taggart and I think it would have been epic!

my draft:
Atlas Shrugged - Novel
Clint Eastwood - Director
Paul Newman - Actor (Hank Reardon)
Ronald Reagan - Actor (John Galt)
Natalie Wood - Actor (Dagny Taggart)
Billy Wilder - Screenplay
James Wong Howe - Cinematographer
Ricardo Montalbon - Actor (Francisco d'Anconia)
Al Franken - Actor (Wesely Mouch)
Mohamen Mehdi Quazanni - Actor (Mr. Thompson)
Bill Maher - Actor (Balph Eubank)

I figure you might find this interesting Jipster. Spielberg is going to be bringing Ready Player One to the big screen.

http://deadline.com/2015/03/ready-pl...os-1201398299/

Kind of neat that one of the books from this draft is being turned into a movie in the near future. Be interesting to see if any of your draft picks actually make it into the film.

EDIT: I forgot Jipster bailed on this draft. So haha @ me for suggesting he take a look to see if the other draft picks of his would make it into the actual adaptation.

haha great bump!

man what an epic draft draft this was and not surprising that a few projects actually were made altho in every case I would have preferred the version from our draft better.

very tempting to run the same draft but this time we all have to adapt the same book as I think that would be super interesting.

the key would be picking the right book obv as the right book could make for an epic draft and the wrong book could lead to a total dud.

any interest and or suggestions?

In. Any suggestions I would make would probably derail the entire project, but I'll give it some thought.

What's the one book that they've never been able to shoot?

ideally need a book with lots of characters the catcher in the rye while a great book wouldn't work so well for this.

blood meridian is pretty much a perfect book for this but seeing as 2 of us already did it and I basically casted it 100% perfectly wouldn't want to choose it again.

the Bible is probably the best book possible even considering it was done already but def wanna hear some other ideas.

Yeah, I see what you mean about Catcher not having enough characters. What would be a minimum number of interesting characters needing casting? 3? 5?

I've had a suspicion that short stories make better movies than novels, but sometimes short stories have limited #s of characters.

Also, I thought the filmed version of Catch-22 was an abomination and would like to re-do it, but I don't think it's widely read anymore.

ya I think 3 is really the minimum 4+ would be better then you draft the main creative crew and you can get to 10 rounds.

need a book that is super well known but hasn't been filmed which makes it pretty tough.

The Meditations, by Marcus Aurelius.

another idea instead of adapting a novel could be to make a real life event into a film.

we could agree on an interesting historical event and each person forms a production company and makes a film about it and we vote on which version we most want to see.
