Interested.

I am trying to look for a spot for a few of my co-workers and myself, but a quick google search returned pretty costly gyms.

We're staying on Ludlow St, LES but it's gunna be my second time in NYC so would be good to actually explore further than just Manhattan this time!

I'm sure this gets asked a tonne, I've scanned the last couple of pages but couldn't find anything, but we def wanna see some basketball, preferably the Knicks. Games we can make are Vs the Caveliers on Dec 4th and Vs Portland Trail Blaizers on Dec 7th. Never bought NBA tickets before, is Stubhub the only safe route to get tickets now that it seems to be sold out? We'd be after the best tickets we can get for up to $180pp.

I'm sure I'll have some more questions but I'll leave it to that for now! Thanks in advance
Have 1 spare ticket for the Knicks v Cavs if you want to ditch your girl for a couple of hours haha - its $240 but you can have it for $200 !

Looking to take the wife on a trip to see all the Christmas stuff next weekend (she has never been) - what's my best bet for convenience/ease of getting around if I want to keep it under $300 for two nights? Sadly a private bathroom is a must otherwise we'd be staying at the ssma club :-/

airbnb a place in brooklyn or long island city near a subway is probably your best/only reasonable bet.

eta that the ssma+private bathroom mention makes me think that this place might fit the bill if you're just looking for a place to crash w/ private bathroom: http://www.nylofthostel.com/

looks like you'd be paying 65 per night for a private room w/full bathroom. I don't know anyone that's stayed there but have walked by it many many times and it's in a great spot in that it's steps away from the morgan L which will get you to union square in 20ish minutes, as well as roberta's which would be a good place to spend the rest of your hotel budget on food. walking distance from some good drinking establishments as well (wreck room is 10 minutes or so).

Just moved to Clinton Hill and am planning on watching the UFC fight somewhere in mid/lower manhattan this Saturday. Any suggestions for a good bar to watch sporting events?

Was actually able to get a room at a 2* chain for 113/night + tax (261 total) a block away from the 21st/queensbridge station 👍

Looks like it's not exactly in the most exciting location - any suggestions for a late night eats that's an easy trip from this station?

Nice price, you're probably going to have to head to Astoria or more south towards LIC to find food/bars late at night. 21st/queensbridge is the F train, so you'd have to walk to Queensboro plaza (prob 6 blocks or so) and take the 7 train to court square for LIC stuff or the NQ to Astoria (any of 30th/31st ave, Broadway, and Ditmars have great food and bars). Alternatively, you could Uber/cab either one of them and it would probably be 10-15 bucks tops each way at the very most. Super late night I'd go with the cabs - convenience and don't have to wait extended for the subway

I live in Astoria/LIC area I'll give you specific recs if you want them. If you mean close walking distance where you are you won't find much except chinese food joints and bodegas probably for a few block radius.

If you mean tonight, Sanford's is a really good 24/7 food place in Astoria. Alewife in LIC has about 100 beers and a good bar menu and the kitchen is open until 2 IIRC. Think they have a scoutmob discount there too. Both should be under $20 round trip in an Uber car/cab.

Thanks - actually getting in next weekend - getting into town late and by the time we get off the plane/get checked in it'll probably be 10:30 or so...

Thai or Indian would be good, but it seems like all the indian places in that area motioned itt close up around 10 :-/

There's a nice bar on 7th street and 2nd avenue. It's on the corner. Also a bunch of bars on ludlow street order the more popular ppv's.

Thinking about Christmas gifts (I know its late).

My parent don't like a lot "things" but I think that would like if I get some type of dessert/candy. Any suggestions?

In particular, my Mom likes popcorn. Any good places with good popcorn?

Don't know about popcorn, but the macaron craze is at it's peak, so maybe a box from Laduree or Francois Payard will do the trick? Both are great.

Thanks, I'll keep this mind.

I ended up getting a dozen cookies at Milk Bar as I believe it was recommended earlier in the thread. I wanted to try them first, but it was a little cramped inside and raining outside so I just order them. Hope they are good.

Top 5 attractions for under $50 a pop? Taking the wife next month and want things to do that are near/in Manhattan but aren't often done by tourists. She's been to the headlining attractions already and loves the city. Thanks in advance.

1. ferry from battery park city to Hoboken
. enjoy some nice views , then you could walk around Hoboken for a bit. Check out that bakery. 12 a person or so for a rt ticket.

2. There is also the big taxi which goes from south street seaport to under the Brooklyn bridge. Nice views again. 20rt I believe.

3. Don't know if its open yet , but look into governour island.

4. Fancy horse and carriage at central park south (59th and 5th ave or so ). Mostly because they might get banned soon , but def worth it.

5. The high line. Free.

6. Bronx zoo.

What age demo are you ?

Couple Inexpensive/Free Options:

1. Walk the Brooklyn Bridge and check out DUMBO

2. See an Off-Broadway Play - check reviews to find good ones and possibly TKTS for same-day deals (for the more well-known O-B shows)

3. Comedy Cellar on MacDougal - relatively inexpensive and intimate, but they get great local & national acts. Sometimes you'll get unannounced guest sets by huge comedians that are trying out new material (I've had friends stumble upon Seinfeld & Chris Rock for a $10 show). Can also find good, cheap eats in the neighborhood (I like happy hour at the Mermaid Oyster Bar).

4. Visit one of the less-trafficked museums. Look online, there are a ton of small museums that can be seen with a small time commitment. If you want a bigger one that's not the Met/MoMA/NatHistory, go to the Brooklyn Museum.

+1 to all those. I have not even gone twenty times to Gotham/comedy cellar/ etc and have been lucky to see rock /Seinfeld and robin williams.

I have unused travel on Southwest that I need to use by the middle of next month and am thinking about taking the wife to New York for the first time.

Due to my work schedule, it would be a Friday night to Sunday morning kind of thing. If it was you, what would you do in that space of time? I should say we are in our fifties so a club is out.

I am thinking a carriage ride around Central Park IF the mayor hasn't been able to outlaw them, a visit to the Empire State building, a visit to the Statue of Liberty, and a Broadway matinee. Is all that doable in the amount of time we'd have?

Yes, other than the statue those are all located within 25 blocks of each other (little more than 1 mile). Some of that does sound miserable in the Winter.
