I was curious what a female's perspective might be so I asked my friend what she thought of the idea.

11:56:32 PM womanbrain: love it after a few drinks
11:56:35 PM womanbrain: def hipster
11:56:41 PM womanbrain: meets the bachelor
11:56:54 PM womanbrain: meets my 6th grade boyfriend

FWIW, she's 27 and a booking agent for a prominent mid size music venue. I think it hits the nostalgia sweet spot for the 25-30 age range. Can't really speak to the early 20's generation.

Think it 's a really solid play in Brooklyn and still could be a decent play with Manhattan girls. Of course that is a ridiculous generalization, but the more hipster/indie leaning the girls are and the less posh, the better the idea becomes. Obviously, it is very specimen dependent, regardless of demographics.

I also think this is somewhat of a high risk/high reward play with girls you don't know all that well (especially a first date), because competition always reveals something for better or worse.

I used to love laser tag, in San Diego we had a place called Ultrazone or something like that, the best laser tag venue I've ever been to. Cool vests and guns...I later went back while I was in college for a late night game. I'll never forget walking around and seeing the enemy, a mid-20s buff guy, and as I started to shoot him, he twisted his body and dodged every shot I fired.

The amount of effort this man put into it, I just couldn't believe it. It was really...lame. I'll never look at the game the same way again

My cousin broke her arm just before we had all scheduled to go for some family thing and some 30 something guy followed her the whole game and kept shooting her. People are awesome

Basically... I have no idea what I am doing. I rented a sublet in BK after visiting my sister for the holidays while still on the return leg of my Prague EPT/WPT quest. Then, one of my best friends had a room open up in the LES, and since you have to live in Manhattan once in your life, I figured why not now? I was living out of a suitcase for 6 weeks, and I just finally went back to MI to drive a truck out with a bed/furniture and all my guitars and home studio.

Seeing as this is now pretty much the worst city on earth to be a pro poker player in, I am mostly focusing on building my coaching business for poker related income. Otherwise, I am spending a lot of time working on music, trying to meet as many creative people as I can, figuring out a way I can make myself a marketable commodity outside of the poker world, learning how to love, and doing my best to keep my demons at bay.

Hope the city is treating you well, sir.
i lived out of a suitcase for about a month and a half, two months, fun huh!?

i was sent info on a guy who runs reputable cash games, i can PM you that if you want. i havent played in any myself, but it seems ok.

if you ever are playing a show in the area, def post ITT. or if you wanna play hu again, i could always use the extra cash heyooooo.

<3 career oriented girls, if u spun it the right way like someone else said (make a read on her personality) I could see it working out well. I find it hard to imagine getting super competitive over a game of laser tag.

Glad you liked the thread I'd love to do some poktanjus in nyc.

LES Date places:

Verlaine is another awesome date place with great Lychee Martinees and decent Tapas.

Went to Dim Sum for the first time in my life today at a non traditional place, 16 years inNYC and for some reason never did. Was thoroughly pleased with my experience at Nom Wah Tea Parlor in Chinatown. Two of us ate like pigs and had a lot of leftovers for $40, including an uneaten order of chicken feet which for some reason I didn't realize would just be chicken skin, bones and claws.

Went to Bubby's in Tribeca last night and it was just a fantastic meal. Fried chicken was just absurdly good + collard greens with pot lickers MMM.

You need to eat chicken feet. Do whatever it takes to get there. IMO.
To the Chinese, it seems to be a delicacy.

Good date spot in LES is Kuma Inn on Ludlow. BYOB Thai Filipino tapas, good food, small, non discreet so you seem knowledgeable if you bring girls here. I like the Spitzer's idea too for a double date. Magician is close good for a couple drinks too.

Went to the lower east to dine rayuela then grab few drinks at verlaine yesterday. rayuela had a very nice atmosphere but I have to admit the girls ordered the wrong plates. (I guess I should have explained that arroz is just rice)

verlaine had a very alive atmosphere and a nice dark setting, but we had to sit by the door at the end of the room which was bit a deal breaker. lychee martinees were great as matt suggested, thanks a lot!

all in all, i'd recommend the two places as date spots for anyone looking.

thanks again matt!

New Yorkers,

What bars do you like for craft/artisan/retro cocktails? I've been to Ward III http://www.yelp.com/biz/ward-iii-new-york a couple times recently and liked it a lot.

I like the vibe of that place, and the cocktails are pretty solid. Other/better places of that style?

PDT (hidden in Papaya Dog, one of most well known)
Death & Co. (most well known place)
Amor & Amargo (bitters place)
Raines Law Room (similar to Death & Co, but in Flatiron)
The Tippler (new place under Chelsea market)
Mayahuel (tequila place)

PDT and Death and Co. are probably most well known and I definitely like them both. I did a mixology class at Raines Law Room but have actually never been on a regular night. Myahuel is a great place if you are a fan of Tequila and Mezcal. Still need to try Amor & Amargo and The Tippler but have heard good things about both.

Probably missing a few on this list as a bunch have opened recently and I excluded a number I thought were just mediocre. Also left off places that are primarily restaurants but also have great cocktails and a good bar.

That is a good list JWS. Raines is great for a date but I find a little too intimate for a group. If you want to go try PDT, they take reservations starting @3p the day of. You don't always need resos but you might be stuck waiting inside a dingy crif dogs packed with sloshed nyu undergrads.

I'm a big fan of both Mulberry Project & Hudson Clearwater for their outdoor garden seating. Mulberry is more of a scene and specializes in bespoke cocktails (there's no drink menu, just a blackboard behind the bar with a list of ingredients/flavors for inspiration, like blackberry and cardamon). Hudson Clearwater is a great restaurant tucked away on morton and a perfect spot for a pre-dinner aperitivi in the garden, cocktails use seasonal ingredients but are fairly classic.

Had a phenomenal dinner at Hudson Clearwater and agree the cocktails are top notch.

I am not as big a fan of the place anymore. Was really cool 3 years ago but is really well known now. That being said, the drinks have always been good when I went, but I like places that do drinks that are almost all liquor.

Hoping to go for first time in july/august. For a first timer, what is best area to be in? Times Square? Hoping to pay about $150 or less for 3 star.
