That's an impressive trip. If you come back head up to Blue Hill at Stone Farms. A fairly quick train & taxi ride (maybe 45 minutes - 1 hour) and I believe viewed as superior to Blue Hill (haven't been to the NYC version).

Great guide. I definitely will have to check out Blue Hill and Daniel. I know the best restaurants I've been to in NYC are EMP, Le Bernadin, Del Postro, and Ichimura @ Brushstroke. For sushi, Ichimura and Sushi of Gari were my preferences to Yasuda and Nakazawa.

That sounds like quite the week. Wow.

For those less ambitious, I went on a free 2 hour "yacht" cruise called the Fish Bar this past weekend. They have 2 cruises each day (I think), 6:30 and 9:30. I did the 6:30 "sunset cruise" on a Saturday, which was awesome and not too crowded. Mix of young people boozing before a night out, and some older tourists.

Goes south from W. 41st Street (next to Intrepid), with great views of Empire State, WTC, Ellis Island, Statute of Liberty, etc. Boat has 3 floors, the middle of which is fairly formal white linen dining. The top floor is open, with a large bar, bottle service, couches, sparse seating, etc. They serve the same menu as downstairs I believe, but its a little clumsy to eat on a rocking boat since there's not much table space. Tough to grab a couch/seat if you don't get there early, and bottle customers obviously get priority. Cocktails were excellent ($16), and beers/wine (plastic cups) were reasonable. Most cruises charge just for the ticket, but I believe this boat is free this summer since it just opened in May.

Got a table next month at Eleven Madison Park. Any recommendations or tips from anyone who's been before?

I went in late Jan right after they made the menu and pricing changes.

Not much to say really in terms of recommendations. You have choices on some of the courses, and don't be afraid to customize basically anything. I really enjoyed the service compared to other elite restaurants I've been to, flawless service but not pretentious.

Me and my GF are more into beer than wine, and they had an excellent beer list - so they basically put together a custom beer pairing for us, which was awesome (and ended up being maybe 1/3rd of the cost of the wine pairing, which was a nice bonus on top of it being great)

Obv if you have a choice between the duck and something else get the duck cause it's the best thing ever

Room is beautiful of course, and the service team had lots of personality and the food was fantastic and surprisingly creative and playful. Added a supplement of the gazpacho to go along with the Foie, the Lobster salad, and the Guinea Hen. The Foie and Guinea Hen were insane dishes - maybe the 2 best things I ate all week. Bread here too is nuts. On way out of restaurant, saw Chef Daniel; and my wife and I spoke with him for 20 minutes. He was incredibly down to earth and a very impressive and funny guy. I really think this should be a 3 star Michelin restaurant...they just do things right here...and hope they get their 3rd star back soon.

Overall, a super fun dining adventure and will absolutely make plans to go back to EMP, Daniel, Le Bernardin, and Blue Hill. I live in LA and Vegas and came away realizing just how amazing the NYC fine dining culture is. They're pros at it. Cannot think of 1 place in LA that I would put in the same league as the list above (maybe Ink, Nobu, Bazaar would slot in) and Vegas has a couple that I would put in the mix (Picasso, Atelier, Joel Robuchon); but the sheer quantity of great restaurants in NYC is staggering.
Daniel is the nuts. I've spoken to him at least 3x there. One night, my gf and I were seated next to the kitchen door and he kept popping out to survey the room and service and diner's reactions. He kept asking us what we thought of every dish - it was all amazing incl the bread as you note. super nice and down to earth.

He doesn't want his 3rd star back, that's based on just hiring way more staff to impress Michelin reviewers. I suspect he'd rather his current staff make more money instead, I know they would.

11 Madison is exquisite.

If you missed Jean Georges, I highly highly recommend it. Flawless service, great room, astonishingly good food, not white glove-y.

Don't forget about Masa. Was amazing.

I'm recently got Hamilton tickets for November, so my wife and I are making an anniversary trip out of the occasion. Any recommendations for a particularly romantic evening in NYC in the early fall? My wife is far from a foodie, and gets more turned off by the cost than turned on by the experience, so Michelin won't work here.

Thanks in advance,
Josh W.

I've read the last 5-8 pages of this thread and will be visiting NYC for a short 1 day (have some business up in CT). We're staying in Hell's kitchen and I am wondering what food places people recommend. I liked this post from Mullen and I'll be checking out some of these options: http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/sh...postcount=1681

We're going to do most of the touristy things (Statue of Liberty, show on Broadway, 9/11/Brooklyn Bridge). Don't care as much for bars but good restaurant recommendations would be appreciated.

Specifically in Hell's Kitchen, Esca is an excellent seafood option (9th & 43rd). Another place I really like in the neighborhood is Toloache, which is a pretty unassuming little Mexican restaurant with some really solid dishes. I think there are two locations in the city.

Though in general 9th ave between 42nd to around 55th has a ton of great little places and it's hard to go wrong.

Thanks for your thoughts, nyc999. I think that my ideal restaurants in the area would be cheaper/something that's somewhat quick. I intend to eat as much different food while I'm in NYC so I want to try as many places as possible.

Small food TR here:

Amorino (https://www.yelp.com/biz/amorino-new-york-3) - Decent ice cream with good ingredients. It was more expensive than most other ice cream places but still solid, IMO.

Num Pang (https://www.yelp.com/biz/num-pang-sa...hop-new-york-5) - I really enjoyed this bahn mi sandwich. It's probably not amazing compared to some of the ones on the west coast, but I thought that Num Phang was excellent on all facets. I ate a pork belly bahn mi and my girlfriend had a coconut shrimp one. My only qualm was that they skimped a bit on the meat for both sandwiches.

Lots of pizza places: I'm not really familiar enough to differentiate between all of the pizza shops. All of them were very tasty and they only differed slightly in some sauce flavoring and how much cheese they added.

https://www.yelp.com/biz/patzeria-pe...pizza-new-york

Carlo's Bakery (https://www.yelp.com/biz/carlos-bakery-new-york) - Didn't think much of it. Walked by and had some chocolate mousse. I didn't do any research and stopped here while walking around.

Luke's Lobster- We ate this before in Boston and ate it again in New York out of convenience. I think we probably could have chosen something else but Luke's was tasty, just like the first time. One thing that I really enjoyed at Luke's was the root beer. We had the sampler with the crab/shrimp/lobster roll and a few other things. While the shrimp and crab were both good, the lobster was far and away my favorite. I think that the buttered toast gelled best with the lobster vs. the other meats.

Overall, I had several other places on my list but wasn't able to eat there due to time constraints. I really wish I had the chance to eat some Asian fusion and some more seafood. Oh well, next time.

I went to Le Bernardin last year with two people and we had the chef's tasting with wine pairing (along with some champagne). Was $1500 for the 3 of us. I do not go to places like this often but I have to say it was a great experience. The staff was constantly making sure everything was good and was very knowledgeable about the wine and food and went into great detail on everything.

I went there about a year ago and thought it was just decent. Food good, bad service, and place was super chaotic (though this prob has wild variance given how slammed these places get). I went to 3 of the many Korean BBQ places in that KTown strip before I decided they were all overpriced and I couldn't discern any of them from each other and stopped bothering, so I'm not exactly a Korean BBQ aficionado and this post may be pointless.

Mullen,

Planning to go with a friend tomorrow, but she said there's a good chance we bail due to chaos.

I looked at menu today and thought damn, k-BBQ is expensive in NYC! I love k-BBQ in general tho...
