there have been a ton of unusual and interesting picks as I would expect in a lounge draft but I have to say it's been really nowhere near as much fun as the other drafts I've done as there is almost zero discussion it's just ppl taking turns posting their picks and then total silence.
I'm just as much to blame as anyone else so not trying to throw shade just making a comment as it is very strange to me I figured this would be super fun with tons of good conversation between picks.

Love me some Carly. I am a huge Stones fan so I really enjoyed the Mick Jagger background vocals towards the end of the song.
Yes she is writing partly about Warren Beatty in the song. The Wilt Chamberlain of Hollywood.

No great song list is complete without Simon or Simon & Garfunkel. Many greats to choose from. America is probably my favorite but the Bowie version was taken in the original draft.
so far: Doo Wah Diddy Diddy - Manfred Mann
Barracuda - Heart
Sing, Sing, Sing - Benny Goodman
Come Go With Me - The Del-Vikings
As Time Goes By - Dooley Wilson
Zoot Suit Riot - Cherry Poppin Daddies
Stray Cat Strut - The Stray Cats
Carey - Joni Mitchell
Mrs. Robinson - Simon & Garfunkel
Time for the great Leonard Cohen. Nothing more to be say about this great other than he is missed.
My #6
Leonard Cohen - Dance Me To The End Of Love
1 Gladys Knight & The Pips - Midnight Train To Georgia
2 Carole King - (You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman
3 The Glenn Miller Orchestra - In the Mood
4 10cc - I'm Not In Love
5 Frank Sinatra - Fly Me To The Moon
6 Leonard Cohen - Dance Me to the End of Love
This pick should be lauded because it's different. I could think of 20 Cohen songs that I could pick for this draft, but when a Cohen song comes on my radio, it is invariably Hallelujah. Not a bad song, but play something else once in a while.
well I guess we've come to the point in the draft where I might as well select a song from my personal fav song writer.
it's taken me this long cuz I just couldn't decide on which one of his tunes to choose as they're all just so incredible.
my dad was a big fan so I grew up listening to all his stuff and for my money the concert in central park is quite possibly the greatest concert ever.
even as I'm typing this im still debating what song to choose and u know what while I was dead set on not taking 2 songs from any one artist I think I'm just gonna have to use both my picks on his songs and even having 2 to choose from really doesn't help me narrow it down.
I'm only typing so many words cuz I'm stalling on trying to finally make a choice but I grew up playing the trumpet so this first one def has a special place in my heart.
fare thee well - dylan (mumford & sons cover)
square one - petty
Irish rover - pogues and dubliners
zombie - cranberries
would - alice in chains
stinkfist - tool
the road goes on forever and the party never ends - robert earl keen jr
high on a mountain - traditional
late in the evening - Simon and garfunkel
mother and child reunion - Paul simon
Love Paul Simon too, duh! Almost took Late in The Evening instead of Mrs. Robinson. In the original song draft I took American Tune and also took Simon in the form a band draft. He will stand the test of time like Beethoven, Mozart or Bach.
haha ya I was considering an American tune but saw you took it last draft.
I easily could have just selected Simon tunes for this entire draft.
fwiw both him and artie are extremely smart and very interesting def recommend watching some of their interviews the later show with bob costas is a great place to start.
I walked into a record store when I was 20, heard Ella Fitzgerald singing Cole Porter, and bought the album immediately. It began my love of the Great American Songbook, which continued with Ron Della Chiesa on WGBH radio in Boston every afternoon for years. Still love Cole Porter's music, the sublime lyrics especially. In this one, Porter combines the high and the low to tell you how great you are:
