I have a real fondness for Irish music, grew up listening to Irish sea shanties and the Clancy bros and tommy makem and van morrison among many others thanks to my dad.
these are 2 absolutely awesome songs one super traditional and then one from an amazing vocal talent with a beautiful and haunting voice.
fare thee well - dylan
square one - petty
irish rover - pogues & the dubliners
zombie - the cranberries
We have all been there at one time. He is very much in love. He is suffering. He needs her back. The song features 3 different keyboards playing simultaneously.
I would probably try and complete my roster with only 70s easy listening songs, to include “I’m Not in Love”
I made my wife listen to “I’d Love You To Want Me” by Lobo the other day.
For pick 3: There is nothing like a classic song finally done right. And Screamin Jay Hawkins shows us all how it is done.
Time for some Black Magic for pick 4:
Pick 1: Blue and Lonesome by Little Walter (long fifties version)
Pick 2 : Lily, Rosemary and The Jack of Hearts by Bob Dylan
Pick 3: Old Man River by Screamin Jay Hawkins Pick 4: Black Magic Woman by Santana
I've been doing this all wrong. I started with a list of several thousand songs to post, but I should be riffing off of posts in the thread. Laurie Anderson reminded me of Wong Kar Wai, which reminded me of Faye Wong, which reminded me of Tori Amos. So here's
Cold War
Nobody's Fault But Mine, Led Zep
Bald Headed Lena, Spoonful
Born in Chicago, Paul Butterfield
Cold War, Tori Amos
Time for Frank. My personal favorite is this song.
Frank Sinatra
Fly Me To The Moon
1 Gladys Knight & The Pips - Midnight Train To Georgia
2 Carole King - (You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman
3 The Glenn Miller Orchestra - In the Mood
4 10cc - I'm Not In Love
5 Frank Sinatra - Fly Me To The Moon
I hit heavy metal, country-rock, and synth pop so far. MSchu has been tossing in some neat foreign music, and I'd like to toss in my favorite Greek singer, Haris Alexiou.
Hard to really describe why she means so much to me. When I left home, my neighbor gave me a bunch of tapes of her music. Her voice is wonderful. I showed this music to a lot of people, and they enjoyed it just the same as I did.
davet's collection:
You Suffer - Napalm Death
Mad as a Hatter - Larkin Poe
Ocean - Goldfrapp
Anthropoi Monaxoi - Haris Alexiou
Keeping up with unique music, I present to you this heartfelt piece by Beats Antique. It's called "Le Refuge," though I obviously don't know what the lyrics are. I did show it to someone who speaks Arabic and French, and he was utterly moved by it, so I'm guessing the lyrics are powerful. I'm not sure which language this is.
Beats Antique is from Oakland. Their shows are absolutely fantastic, featuring belly dancers and puppets. Of course, if you go, make sure you dress up as one of the characters. Okay, I don't go in costume, but it's part of the charm of seeing them live.
