Listening to Mogwai as I haven't done so for a long time. Truly incredible stuff.

I got The College Dropout a few days ago, at best indirectly because of Kayne West's much made of recent jackassery. Anyway, it's very good; I've been listening to it almost exclusively for the last few days. I can't get Spaceship out of my head; the first two minutes are great. I suppose I'm a bit late to the party though.

This is good advice. My girlfriend and I did just this on Sunday night. She loves Brian Ferry and it was a nice end to a great weekend.

I'm listening to Tim Buckley, because I was watching a Hal Ashby tribute, and it showed Coming Home's last scene where Bruce Dern walks into the ocean. I didn't know that was a Tim Buckley song (Once I Was).

He's got an interesting voice and some strange songs.

I'm listening to a country lady named Gillian Welch. She has good country songs and good lyrics. One More Dollar is a superb song. But I looked her up, and she's a middle/upper class girl from California, singing about poor country folk and affecting an accent.

I'm not sure how I feel about this. It raises difficult questions about country music and authenticity.

Both really good albums. But I need to be happy now, so I'm listening to Gimmie Fiction by Spoon.

Little Walter.

I had never heard of Little Walter until a friend gave me a CD 3 or 4 years ago.
Since then I've listened to him more than anything else. Wonderful stuff.

black gold - "shine"

won't you shine tonight?
in the face of the light?
with you on my mind
i can make it thru
make it thru the night

i heard this song on the radio last night, came home and found it online, and have now listened to it about a dozen times already. it is ecstatic, euphoric pop music.

I'm listening to Nick Drake. I could listen to River Man forever, one of my favorite songs. His sound is a little soft for my taste, in general, but I keep coming back and listening to more. He creates a striking sense of intimacy with his voice and guitar.

There's a good documentary about him on the Instant Netflix that I watched a few months ago.

That's common as rain though. Even a lot of the guys and gals from the south twang it up as much as possible when they sing.

Well, there's twanging it up, and there's living a lie. Loretta and Dolly grew up dirt poor in Tennessee. Merle served time in prison, and Cash picked cotton in Arkansas as a kid. If you're talking about pop country, that's another story. Welch's music is better than that, and she's a talented artist, but country is a little special when it comes to "keeping it real," because of its origin and history.

I'm now listening to the great They Might Be Giants. Their epic album Apollo 18.

Mammal. I Palindrome I. The Statue Got Me High. Dinner Bell. One classic after another.

"So the warm blood flows through the large 4-chambered heart. Maintaining the very high metabolism rate they have. Mammal. Mammal. Their names are called; they raise a paw. The bat. The cat. Dolphin and dog. Koala bear and hog."
