I'm sure I must've posted this before, but new information has come to light that, imo, warrants a re-post.
It has recently come to my attention that Idols inspiration for the title of this song came from when he was hanging out with The Rolling Stones.
They were drinking whiskey, specifically "Rebel Yell" which evidently was one of Keith Richards favourites, and Billy found the name of the whiskey so fascinating that he asked the Stones if they would mind if he made a song called "Rebel Yell".
I'm not sure why he felt the need to ask their permission - it was not their whiskey (well, that particular bottle probably was), but anyway, they said "go ahead" and Billy went ahead.
With this information, I obviously went immediately to google and found that not only was Rebel Yell still around, but it was available at a shop pretty close to me.
Since Idol hung out with the Stones, it's changed its name to 'Rebel' (fire whoever decided that obv), though the glass bottle still has 'Rebel Yell' embossed on it.
Anyway, picked up a bottle and it's... fine. It's not amazing, but it has a very endearing quality in that it's quite cheap.
And obviously its extremely important place in music history makes it worthwhile either way.
When it comes to "empowering songs" I feel there's a thin line between empowering and just cheesy (it's not actually that thin because it's an incredibly cheesy genre, but anyway...)
In a vacuum this would land pretty solidly on the cheesy side, but on the other hand, it's Kelsea. And nobody puts Kelsea in a cheesy corner.
Heard this song (HEAVEN OR LAS VEGAS) for the first time in 20+ years at, of all places, Harry Reid INTL Airport recently...it's still kinda stuck in my head:
