first time hearing this
at times it's a difficult hike for even the most seasoned musical travelers
looking forward to my next weekend on the trail
thank you for the directions
This coming Monday it will be 25 years since Falco died in an accident where his car was hit by a bus.
AFAIK, he's second only to Mozart when it comes to the greatest Austrian musicians to ever have lived (though I'll grant Strauss a close third) so a few of his songs are warranted on such an occation.
He's got a lot of really good songs and for anyone unfamiliar with him, the best album to start with is probably Falco 3 which also contains the first song of his 'Jeanny'-trilogy:
The song was big in much of Europe but was very controversial in Austria with several radio stations banning it as it's basically about a guy stalking and abducting a girl and it was based on a series of abductions of young girls that was going on in Vienna at that time.
Falco said it was his attempt to explore that thematic and the mindset of someone who'd commit such crimes and he sings the song as the guy obsessing over the girl.
The Vienna abductions were never solved and at least 5 girls went missing and were never found during that period.
The second part, released on his album "Emotional", followed up the tale - the lyrics, along with the video, might mean that Jeanny escaped, got rescued or was let go with the stalker ending up in an asylum still longing for Jeanny:
While called a trilogy, the 3rd part was found by chance after Falcos death and nobody really knows if it was meant as the final part of the Jeanny-saga:
There are also two other related songs - in 2000 a company got an unknown Falco song sent anonymously to them - it was called "Where Are You Now? (Jeanny Part III)" and was later confirmed to be a song that Falco recorded for an album but abandoned:
And, for the sake of completion, there was also a song included on one of Falcos albums called "Bar Minor 7/11 (Jeanny Dry)" though it's fairly uninteresting imo:
I guess Falco never made it big in the US, but he is an 80s icon in much of Europe.
