I got to see X in 1991 at The Troubador in L.A.

Wow.

I love those guys. I listened to Wild Gift the most, back in the day. They were fun in concert too, tons of personality, thought Exene tended to get way too drunk.

Some of the most memorable concerts that I have seen were X, The Knitters with Dave Alvin and John Doe solo.

At a John Doe show about 20 years ago in a bar in Baltimore I met John Waters who I didn't realize was a friend of John Doe. After the show he introduced me to John Doe, who couldn't have been nicer.

Way back in The Day, I met the whole band...must have been like '87 or so. While they were all pretty cool, John Doe was like some guy you knew from the bar down the street who stopped by for a beer. Talk about easy-going and cool.

And they were an awesome band, and somewhat under the radar in the scene I was in, so their shows were always great (read: not ruined by DC dumbness).

Anyway, yes, Wild Gift is great, but for some reason, I just love the hell out of Los Angeles.

Hell, I even liked Under the Big Black Sun.

This is what came up today. I'll venture to guess that no one here has heard this album before:

It's really not that good, just a curiosity.

This has spurred me to imagine how Hendrix might have played Concierto De Aranjuez.

Stevie is tricky because he's a great artist who has put out a lot of garbage. I like his earlier stuff a lot though.

Right now its Deja Entendu by Brand New.

However, most of the week's listening has been taken up by Radiohead since seeing them on top form last Sunday (opened with Creep!!).

heard this song for the first time tonight, and i fell in love immediately. somehow it manages to be jaunty and ebullient yet melancholy at the same time; it's marvelous.

i want to see the bright lights tonight

Kid Cudi's Man on the Moon. It leaked a couple days ago. It's not like radio hip hop at all. There's two songs he collaborated with Ratatat. It's really good.

I'd like to thank Dominic for XX. I've really been enjoying it since I saw it mentioned here.

How you can recommend an interesting band like XX and yet also recommend such a trite country singer as Hal Ketchum is baffling...are you sure you're not two different people?

LOL. Really, is that what it's called? I wonder how that could possibly have anything to do with making Ketchum less trite...do you just shut your ears when you listen to him?

(FWIW, I don't really care that you like Ketchum. I was just teasing you (as you teased Amber about her movie choice) but since you got purely defensive, I'm done.)

Not to turn this into an unofficial xx appreciation thread or anything but, seriously, they are awesome. I also tried them out after reading in here. Favourite is probably "Heart skipped a beat".

do you purposely try to jack every thread or does it just come naturally? Every post of yours you're "teasing" someone. It's tiresome. Try just participating instead, you might like it.

I'm still chuckling over the fact that you guys actually met each other in real life. I'm imagining quite a conversation!
