Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd all day, every day.

Led Zeppelin more individual songs but mostly songs from Led Zeppelin II, Led Zeppelin IV, and Houses of the Holy.

Pink Floyd goes, Animals>Wish You Were Here>Meddle>Dark Side of the Moon, and then every once in a while i'll listen to The Wall

do you guys ever use your genius playlist function? I probably listen to that the most on my iPhone. It's created some awesome playlists for me.

Re: Music: What are you listening to today?

I tried it for a little bit, but it kept associating stuff so amazingly disconnected to what I was looking for, so I turned it off. I think the problem was that an awful lot of what I have is so local or so obscure, that genius didn't know what to make of it.

I gave Zeppelin III a listen-through the other day and I remembered how much I love that album.

WYWH is certainly Floyd's peak imo...Animals is solid; I love Dogs so much riiiiiiiight up until Waters opens his mouth, the man cannot sing.

As for myself...I'm on a huge Otis Redding kick right now.

Re: Music: What are you listening to today?

Spent most of yesterday listening to various Beatles tracks, as they had a Beatles day on one of the national radio stations here. Not only songs, but discussing their history, recording techniques etc.

They were such a great band.

III is one of the great under rated LZ albums. Dogs along with Pigs (Three Different Ones) are classics.

Re: Music: What are you listening to today?

The soundtrack to the movie Times Square. I don't think they ever released it on CD but I listen to it via youtube. I keep replaying "The Night Was Not" by Desmond Child and Rouge. If anyone knows where I could get a hold of either this single on CD or preferably the entire movie soundtrack I would be very appreciative. The album is available on Amazon but it does me no good, sadly.

My band of the day (and year) is Agalloch. They're a folk-metal band out of Oregon. Their music is quite creative, and the lyrics are dark, yet beautiful. I recommend giving them a try.

Amber, It's never been on CD (at least domestically), which is too bad, because it's a nice and varied sampler. Also, Robin Johnson (who played the lead in the film) takes a couple of neat turns punking up the jailbait-anthem lode previously mined by The Runaways, on a couple of songs, "Damn Dog" and "Your Daughter is One". If you like those songs, check out Joan Jett's Glorious Results of a Misspent Youth, one of the most underrated albums of the post-punk era.

Check the used CD bins for the album "Runners in the Night", the album by Desmond Child and Rouge that has that song. Their (or his) first album wasn't bad, although it was almost too fractured and unclassifiable at the time.

To stay on thread, I've mentioned before (and I'ma try to find that "favorite covers" thread), my favorite all time Bob Dylan cover was X doing "Postively 4th Street", which was only available as the flip side of their 45 single of "Fourth of July". I also mentioned I have been looking for it for years, as my copy got sold out from under me and the only copies I have been able to find are scratched and worn beyond any real enjoyment. Lo and behold, Rhino and amazon have released a series called "Digital 45s", a download of said recording iis available for only .99.

I downloaded it, and I have been listening to it (as well as other X albums) obsessively for about the past 48 hours. Yes, it sounds as good as it did when I first heard it. I cannot recommend it enough.

Re: Music: What are you listening to today?

Anybody know of any compilation or whatever of an old song by The Suburbs called Music for Boys? The only version I can find is a live one, and it's not as good as the one made in the studio.

Thanks very much for the info, I am on it. I do like You're Daughter is One, Damn Dog, and almost all of the songs in the movie (Same Old Scene, Pissing in a River) with the exception of Help Me.

Edit to say, I just found this on Amazon (Runners in the Night). You are awesome.

Not only does it sound as good as ever, it may even sound better. Everything from "Los Angeles" through "See How We Are" is great but "Wild Gift" approaches perfection.

John Doe may be the most underappreciated singer of the modern era.

And, you know, Max, they are never one of those bands I immediately think of when asked about great bands or artists, but they never fail to deliver. I've pretty much gone through the whole catalog in the last few days, and it is simply amazing how durable and rich their music remains.
