So SiriusXM has a Beatles station, and they did a countdown where their listeners ranked the top 100 songs:

10. Yesterday
9. Strawberry Fields Forever
8. Let It Be
7. Here Comes The Sun
6. Something
5. Abbey Road Medley
4. While My Guitar Gently Weeps
3. Hey Jude
2. In My Life
1. A Day In The Life

Two things that surprised me: In My LIfe being ranked No. 2, and three George Harrison compositions in the top 10. Guess they should've let him write more songs. Who knows how big they could've been?

No love for the older stuff, and Penny Lane is top ten worthy.

I've been on a bit of a rap binge over the past few weeks. I'm feeling a little behind in that area.

It seems like there are two branches of rap right now. The so-called SoundCloud rappers, who are either currently unsigned or people who got their start on SoundCloud (reality, it was Instagram and YouTube, but why let facts get in the way).

Let's talk about the signed artists.

Of course, everyone knows Eminem dropped Kamakaze with no warning. It's an okay album. There are some very good tracks that I appreciate on it. Some people hail it as "Slim Shady is back!" and others say "hang it up, old man."

Kendrick Lamar, To Pimp a Butterfly and Damn.

To Pimp a Butterfly is an album I really appreciate even though I couldn't get through it. It's just exhausting, with too much of the jazzy stuff going on for my taste. I do like how it's fully of pure ghetto (very real) mixed with hope. It's a powerful album and I get why people call it is opus. It isn't really for me though.

Damn. seems to be more universally liked ("pop") and I'll admit I really like this one.

Lil Wayne is rather surprising. I never followed his music, but I have to say, I'm enjoying a lot of his music. Rebirth is strange, but it's tolerably real to the various flavors of rock and punk it is trying to emulate. A few decent tracks on it.

SoundCloud Artists.

6ix9ine. Now backed by 50 Cent, this guy is just strange. I joke that I can't sing along because I can only understand one word. I'm not a fan, but I think I get it nonetheless. His radio interviews are well-worth listening to. He's somehow stupid and smart at the same time.

Lil Xan. He isn't that bad, really, compared to the rest of the mumble-rap crew. There is a track called "Live or Die" with with Noah Cyrus that's well worth listening to. Actually, everything you can find with featuring Noah Cyrus is pretty good. Her voice is very unique.

The Kinks have universally been underappreciated.

Dave, I'm listening to some old school these days, like this:

LL Cool J was damn good.

I also like some new stuff that's more soul or pop than straight hip hop, like:

I'm really liking this modern hip hop that's more melodic, you know?

Oh wow, I've been a lifelong Beatles fan and Day In The Life has always been my favorite. Most important takeaway is that almost nothing from their early days is represented in this list; it's all material from their later psychedelic phase except maybe In My Life? No Help!, no Love Me Do, etc.

I Wanna Hold Your Hand and Eight Days A Week are top 5 for me.

Huge Beatles fan here. I've barely changed the channel since it came out. A Day In The Life is actually one of my least favorites. I find it kind of boring. Norwegian Wood is criminally underrated iyam. Also, these two are just so great....

It's the first song on my "Schmaltz" playlist. And I'm using the word "schmaltz" with reverence.

Eleanor Rigby definitely makes the top 10--probably my favorite. If I were to rank all my favorites, I doubt if 3 songs after the release of "Revolver" make my top 20.

I got to see them in 1966. Still one of my top music experiences.

Dominic, you may be glad to know Tricky is still making music. Here's a rap he did with Bella Gotti.

This music is absolutely NSFW, so I'll just give a direct link:

Here's a beautiful and heartfelt piece that's quite tame. I'm always surprised at how dynamic Tricky is.

Not the best recording but this was the highlight of the Love For Levon concert for me. Grace Potter.....so gorgeous, talented, and soulful. Truly a beautiful performance.
