Yea, I didn't really like Meat Loaf until Bat out of hell part 2 (I had this girl who for years prior really tried to sell him to me but I just ignored all of her recommendations since I had this image of Meat Loaf as a flamboyant dick who was all image and no talent), but when BOOH2 came out, I had this other friend who it turned out worshiped Meat Loaf and so I had to check out that album.
I've had a few 180s on artists/bands, but Meat Loaf is probably my biggest one - I loved Bat out of hell 2 and on checking out his older stuff I found that was even better. Never really connected with that girl later on, but I sometimes wish I did, if only to tell her how right she was and what an idiot I was who could've discovered Meat Loaf so much sooner.
The pairing of Meat Loaf and Jim Steinman is one of the best in all of music history - I can't think of any other musical co-operation that match each other so well.
"Paradise by the dashboard lights" is one of my favourites - there's
an earlier live-version that is more famous/common (and tbh Meat Loaf probably performs even better in that one), but I just love Aspen Miller in the one linked above.
