But this version. The guitar very soulful, gentle, and soothing at 2:41.... then the shooter with the six gun and cigarette hangin out of his mouth. Robert. Anyone who doesn't recognize this song as epic doesn't understand it. But that's ok. Don't be embarrassed.
I dislike Morriissy as much as anyone, but he is a genius. This song speaks very loudly to British kids who grew up in the working class in the 70’s/early 80s. I think that a lot of the teacher violence to kids was caused by the fact that many of the teachers were WWII veterans with undiagnosed PTSD.
p.s There is a series of short interviews about The Smith’s with Tony Wilson in which he discusses art vs artist at one point(Cliffs- if Tony Wilson thinks you’re a **** you ARE a ****).
He also not so subtly trolls Morrissey by referring to him as “Stephen” throughout the interview.
... you will have to listen to this to cheer you up(I know that I have posted this song before, but .. can’t get enough of a good thing eh?)
From YouTube comments
“I love the drama. I love the atmosphere. I love the sound effects. And they wrote the most depressing song ever: “I Can Never Go Home Anymore.” When me and my boyfriend finished, I used to listen to that song on repeat, just sitting on my kitchen floor with a bottle of Jack Daniels. I’d pass out, wake up and do it again. My flatmate used to come in, leave bags of KFC and just leave. She’d be like, ‘There’s your dinner, I’m going out.’ It’s the saddest song in the world.” Amy Winehouse ~ Amy Winehouse: The Day She Came to Dingle
There is something so comforting and relaxing about listening to singers who effortlessly and almost casually perform even the most demanding of vocal songs.
I only realized just how comforting it was after having watched the various talent shows that got popularized with Idol, XXX got talent and the likes years back.
It's almost physically painful to listen to some of those performances where the artist has a decent voice but is attempting something just on the brink of their ability and you're sitting there just waiting for it to break.
Even if they pull it off, most of the time you can tell it's so close that it's still uncomfortable.
So there are a few go-tos that I have as safe-zones to bring comfort after such ordeals - Emma Shapplin is among the top 5:
One of the most misunderstood songs in history, it is actually about a guy who learned CPR while he was working in hospital radio, the clue is in the line “Last night a DJ saved my life from a broken heart”.
A Greek duet I had never heard of before performed this...it rolled over the closing credits of UNHINGED. excellent cover imo. If anyone else is familiar with the band and has some fav songs, please post them.
