Money for Nothing was on my list also. Younger people probably don't realize how mind-blowing that CGI was at the time.

I don't really like the song, but I was thinking of picking it anyway just because it's such a classic music video.

xander biscuits - Pick 7 - Beastie Boys - Sabotage

This video looks like such fun to make and is really fun to watch. It just fits so well with the song. Really well directed and edited to hit all the right parts of the video at the appropriate parts of the song. No cuts back to the studio of them singing the song, no editing in anything to do with the music, just a really fun scene with a really great accompanying tune. Seems easy to do but there are so many attempts and failures at this.

Round 7

Too Drunk to Karaoke - Jimmy Buffett/Toby Keith

This is a fun one! I am a big Jimmy Buffett fan and pretty much enjoy everything he has ever done. This one sets up for an entertaining little video story that I find enjoyable to both watch and listen too.

so far:

Paperback Writer - The Beatles
The Making of Good Vibrations - The Beach Boys
Singin' in the Rain - Gene Kelly
Bad to the Bone - George Thorogood
Simply Irresistible - Robert Palmer
Whip It - Devo
Too Drunk to Karaoke - Jimmy Buffett/Toby Keith

The directors did a fantastic job of recreating the era's sets and primitive special effects. I also realized that this is the third video out of my 6 picks that was directed by Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Farris (1979 and Otherside being the other 2).

There is a color version of A Trip to the Moon, so the video sort of copies that version although I doubt the director knew of its existence then.

At a recent gig, someone was asking me about Tracy Chapman after I said I was from Cleveland. We both agreed that she had that one amazing album (I owned it, and it was amazing) and she just fell off a cliff. Neither of us realized she had more material, just thinking she had nothing more to say.

I just looked her discography up and it seems she has 8 albums spanning 20 years.

Tonight Tonight and Sabotage are both great videos, and yeah, I actually like both songs.

Tonight Tonight was one of the first songs I ever learned.... and by "learn" I mean I learned it incorrectly and to this day, I have no clue how to actually play it.

Jimmy Buffet aside, the last 3 are all amazing videos!!

My next pick:

Björk - Pegan Poetry

Damn near all of her videos could've been worthy of a pic. 3 from this album alone. Hidden Place and Cocoon are quite similar. But I went with this because I like the song a little more.

I use the terms "brilliant" and "genius" different then I probably should. "Brilliant" is more of an amazing mind overall. "Genius" is more of an individual thing and more related to 1 specific field. By that rationale, Bill Gates is "brilliant" and Kanye West is (was?) "genius". Björk is both.

I'm going with something new this time. Of course, unlike you younger guys, I've included Francis and the Lights and Sampha while most of you seem like you haven't seen or heard a thing in the last 15 years. (I'm kidding in case you didn't get it.)

I love the color palette in this one; the song is probably one of my favorites in the past year, and it features a couple sights in lower Manhattan. I also like that Annie Clark believes the word "mother****er" establishes a sense of intimacy. At a meeting this year, I whispered into the ear of one of my colleagues that very word. She was touched.

This Round's Pick (7?)

If someone had described this video to me before I had seen it, I would never have watched it - it would have seemed too precious. But I have to say it works.

I'm not sure that everyone will have the courage to admit that this is the greatest video ever made, but all must agree that Seagull Screaming Kiss Her Kiss Her (stolen from some Brit song) is the greatest band name.

So Far

1. Golden Earing - The Twilight Zone
2. The Stripes - Zatoichi
3. Not Morris Day, but Kyary Pamyu Pamyu wit Tempura Kidz
4. Girls Just Want To Have Fun - Cyndi Lauper
5. Bad Sister (Rock version) - Wang Rong
6. Jolin Tsai - My Fave
7. Seagull Screaming Kiss Her Kiss Her - No Star

^^^^^ cool video!

My 7th round pick:

Marilyn Manson - Long Hard Road Out Of Hell

NSFW!!! Manson appears nude in this one. So....enjoy!

I'm not a huge Manson fan, but holy cow, this guy is in control of his image. And that image is horrifying and disturbing.

This music video was directed by Matthew Rolston, and was filmed at the site of Robert F. Kennedy's assassination, the Ambassador Hotel in Los Angeles. The video features examples of tableaux vivants, images composed of people holding poses - and they are incredible. In the clip, Manson is androgynous, and is shown wearing a dress and posing like a pin-up model. A group of models who strike sexualized poses in the clip initially appear to be female, but are revealed to be male. One of the models transforms into a figure who resembles Aleister Crowley, a Victorian era magician whose writings have influenced Manson.

I remember being mesmerized by this when it first came out...and being disturbed that I found the main female model very attractive only to not be able to distinguish when "she" became a "he."

Damn interesting video.

Like his music or not, any video with Marilyn Manson is pretty much able to get into this draft.

You all watch way too much TV. I haven't seen half of these, haha.

It seems The Lounge is strangely attracted to creepy and disturbing videos.

I'm not. Or at least I don't think I am.

The only reason I've seen what I have is from searching for the songs on YouTube to show to others.

I fell into a rabbit hole looking at classic music videos and I found this gem from the 90's that's now stuck in my head:

B-Real, Coolio, Method Man, LL Cool J And Busta Rhymes - Hit Em High

Remember when the Method Man, LL Cool J, Busta Rhymes, Coolio and that guy from Cypress Hill all teamed up to do a song for a children's movie? Not only did this improbable collaboration actually happen in real life, the result was an absolute banger. Five guys in their prime, all with distinctive and contrasting styles. Put this in your mp3 player the next time you need to get pumped for a workout. It's the hardest kid's movie soundtrack song of all time.

Admittedly, the video doesn't add much, but I thought it's still a great snapshot from the mid-90's.

Walk This Way (Run DMC / Aerosmith)
Tom Petty And The Heartbreakers - Don't Come Around Here No More
Gin and Juice (Snoop Dogg)
Sober (Tool)
Michael Jackson - Smooth Criminal
Mastodon - High Road
B-Real, Coolio, Method Man, LL Cool J And Busta Rhymes - Hit Em High
