Re: Moving to Buenos Aires discussion

I have an Argentine bank account, but it's because I had to set it up to be paid by my job (I'm a permanent resident, and am working for an Argentine company en blanco).

Re: Moving to Buenos Aires discussion

I just moved to Buenos Aires a few days ago from Santa Monica CA. How do I get involved with the Tuesday night dinners. I appreciate any info.
Thanks

Re: Moving to Buenos Aires discussion

I work on Tuesday nights, so for me, dinner is out... but anyone up for some weekly poker action? Something kind of low stakes, I'd figure like a $50 ARS a week buy-in. Thursday night would probably be best for me, as I have an off again/on again game on Wednesday with my baseball buddies.

Re: Moving to Buenos Aires discussion

I created a map in Google Maps that has an entire map of the subway (including works in progress) and various touristy stuff marked. It would primarily be useful for people new to the city that just have no idea about the location of anything but there should be some value for everyone.

Clicky

I'd like to add more stuff to it - more bars (I don't actually know where they are myself) and maybe the good hospitals (I'd have to look them up) and any sort of landmarks or tourist attractions that I've forgotten. I'm sure there are plenty. Also I started to mark all the stations on the commuter train to Tigre and then realized that I can't find out where exactly they are? Not really a big deal but if someone knows where to find their exact locations then I could finish that. I don't know of anyone who uses the other trains so I just ignored those.

All suggestions welcome.

We also have made a new maps page:

http://LandingpadBA.com/buenos-aires-super-map/

Tell us what you think, as far as I know it's the most complete set of maps for the city.

Cheers.

Can anybody recommend good bars with live music? My dad [52] is coming in a week, and he likes such bars

Thanks

La Cigale might be worth a visit too. Best check and see who's playing there first though, cause I find the bands are more hit and miss. Also, sometimes they bring in DJs instead and give it a more club-like atmosphere, which I'm not sure your dad would go for. Just depends on the night.

I don't know what your intentions are but I'm not sure there is necessarily 3 days worth of stuff to do. I would see the plazas and buildings around ciudad vieja. Make sure to eat one day at Mercado del Puerto. Hope for good weather and spend time at the beaches in La Rambla.

Anyone know where I can get a fondue pot? Jumbo/Easy didn't work, and I'm failing to think of a better option than mercado libre.

There's a 'bazaar' on Santa Fe between Carranza and Bonpland that I'm pretty certain would have one. It is like a kitchen supply store.

sorry to hear that buddy....

Last time I was in Montevideo I had a real good time but it was cause we had something specific to do like the Argentina-Uruguay WC Qualifier. I get the impression that Uruguay in general is pretty difficult to enjoy unless you get some good weather. I´ve had same great times, just they tend to be correlated with very sunny days.
