damn went to that casino today trying to make a run w/my pesos and went busto. that tournament is gonna be so ridic soft. on a heater too, made $20k yesterday and my roommate that i stake made like $5k at 1/2 today.

mephisto, we talk to the girls in english. our spanish is pretty useless so far, but they're slowy teaching us (along with our tutors).

nah mainly the reason is because I go out a lot. But if you want good advice read everything zarathrustra (sp?) has said in this thread about this, everything he has said is on point. Argentine girls and their attitudes are a product of the way the guys are here...the guys are super aggressive, give them tons of attention, etc etc. but if you speak spanish (even conversationally) and aren't a ****** they are just as easy as anywhere else. the problem is - yeah, you'll **** them - you just are gonna have to have some patience. everyone is going to make out with girls here. but you have to follow up, call them again, when they don't respond, wait a while, call them again. play the game that they are so accustomed to playing right back at them, tease them a little, just don't seem desperate. because that's what the gigantic majority of argentine guys seem like. anyone who's been here for awhile can say that they'll sleep with you like any other girl if you get em to go to dinner with you once. its just that girls (the majority of the real hot ones anyways) won't have a one night stand with you. no way. they are hit on 100 times a night and they loooove to have their friends see them shoot down a guy, it just boosts their already inflated egos. but there are certain things that are gonna help you. a) don't just walk up to a hot girl in a club. it won't work. you're the 40th guy that night that's done it. b) go out, if you can, with girls. argentine guys tend to go out in packs that to the girls look like packs of wolves looking for deer to prey on. being with girls reduces the chance that your random girl is going to take on that inherent female quality that is resistant to something that resembles...a pack of wolves.

basically the key is disaccociating yourself from the typical aggressive guy that they meet in a bar or a club. obviously you have to counteract that with the fact that you have to be SOMEWHAT aggressive because they're so goddamn accustomed/addicted to the attention they recieve on a nightly basis that they just don't chase. the hot ones don't chase. but once they decide that they want something with you...then you have them. that's the beauty of latin girls and why I'm addicted to them - they have that fire, and they are more passionate about things (esp "love") than girls from any other country where I've been, and I've been to a lot.

In any case, yes, argentine girls are stuck up. but there's a way around that, and a lot of the hate that argentine girls get in this thread is from guys who didn't try hard enough to find that way around it. Just be charming, funny, not ******ed, somewhat aggressive without being overbearing....and you'll reap the rewards. and learn spanish.

I've been a long-time lurker of this thread and on 2+2 in general, but have never bothered to open an account to post anything until today. Anyways, I am a 22 year old recent college grad who was looking to do something different when I graduated. Long story short, I'm going to be joining all of u down in Buenos Aires on Friday and am planning to live there a year-ish (that part is flexible). I'll be learning/working on my horrible spanish, volunteering some with a group called LIFE Argentina, travelling around S.A. a bit, and other than that just chilling and enjoying life.

I would definitely be down to go out with you guys to your dinner next week to meet a bunch of you. Also, I'm looking to rent a room and live in apartment with some other people (seems more interesting to me than buying my own apartment) so if any of you have a spare room P.M. me with some info. Right now I'm just looking on craigslist and the like but we'll see...

Poker-wise I am not a high roller like a lot of you. Online I play some 1/2 NL, $30-80 tourneys, and PLO (though I have played as high as 5/10 live), but making money from poker will sort of be secondary for me in B.A. as I already have some money saved up for the trip.

I went to the Argentina Brazil game last weekend, so I've got a little experience with this. What happened there (and I'm pretty sure this is standard, from everything I've heard), is that tickets don't go on sale until around a week before. There are tons of sites out there trying to sell tickets ahead of time, but NOONE has tickets until the week before, and even then if you want them you have to stand in line for about a day or two to get them.
You're options will be to go to Uruguay to buy the tickets about a week before the game, whatever day the tickets go on sale, or if you're willing to shell out some bigger bucks, you can probably find some scalpers in the city selling them for about US100. The Brazil game scalpers I know were getting around 150 US, but that was a bigger game, so it's probably a little less for Uruguay.

All of what Sybarite says sounds right, but let me nitpick slightly: the Argentina-Uruguay game is the last game of qualifying, so it will probably be a huge game given the way the standings look right now.

I'd check the Esplendor hotels...eg, Esplendor Soho.

There are a lot of factors going into it but I doubt they will be anywhere near that much. First of all, even though it was a very important game for both teams, they were doing buy one ticket get one free at Centenario for the Uruguay-Colombia game yesterday in order to get fans at the stadium. Second, it is much bigger than any stadium in Argentina and it almost never sells out. Offhand, I'd say it seats 80k. Montevideo, hell all of Uruguay is much smaller population wise than Buenos Aires. There just won't be the people there to fill it. Even if Uruguay beats Ecuador in Ecuador and it comes down to them versus Argentina to see if they even have a chance to go to South Africa, I'm guessing the game still won't even sell out. That would require a large contingent of Argentines going over there for the match. Its possible but I think very unlikely. I'd look at the afa website and whatever the uruguayan federation's name's( i believe AUF) website is about 2 weeks before the game for an announcement about getting tickets. You might even be able to go up to the stadium moments before the game and get a ticket.

Wat? Arg vs Brasil for US$150? Game day they were scalping for US$1k cash, easy. Fairly sure the orig tickets were AR$60 for the cheapest sections, so it's unreal how much a profit these guys are making.

i have two 30" dells. i just bought one for $1500 from neil, but i think i overpaid him a little. ill sell both of them for the best offer. i might also have a 20" dell, depending whether my roommate is going to stay or not.

the 30" monitors need a dual link DVI.
i also have a desktop xps pc - its ~1 yr old, it has 4gb memory and can handle 4 monitors (i have 3 hooked up now). its a really good computer and i have no problems with it.

finally i have a steelcase leap chair. i paid $1000 US (they were asking $1500), but i know that's a lot for a chair. obviously i'm not going to take it back to the US with me, so i'll let it go for whatever i can get. it's pretty nice.

if someone wants to buy everything .. two 30"s, a 20", good pc, and a steelcase chair for $4k obo. i gurantee it'll pay for itself. i've already made atleast 10x because its such a nice setup. and i throw some other random crap in.

Really is hard to believe it hosts 80,000. But just wikipedia'd it and it does have a current capacity of about 73k which is strange cos when I went to visit it last year, it not only looked in bits, but it looked so small compared to other stadiums I had been to, with maybe half the capacity of the centenario. Guess they allow standing still.
