Re: Moving to Buenos Aires discussion

There is also a course on the edge of the capital near the end of the P line (connects to the end of the E). I cant remember the name of it, but you get off the P line at the Jumbo stop and it is right there. It's definitely nicer than the Palermo course, but its a haul to get there. The prices are comparable to the Palermo course.

On shipping clubs, I bought a golf bag specifically for air travel and brought them with me. Its classified as a specialty bag and does not count towards your 2 suitcase limit. There are also no weight restrictions on this bag, so along with my clubs I packed it full of all the heavy gringo supplies I had. I'm not sure if the same guidelines still apply, this was ~1 1/2 years ago.

That being said, a friend and myself go golfing about once a month, so if anyone is interested PM me.

Have anyone tried cashing checks from FTP or Stars issued in USD in Argentine banks?

Do I need a bank account to do that, or will any bank let me cash checks?

Re: Moving to Buenos Aires discussion

Is there anyone here that can give me pesos in exchange for a transfer on pokerstars? I would like to do around 300 USD but could do more or a little less. I will pay vig.

Re: Moving to Buenos Aires discussion

I lost my phone for a few weeks a month or so ago and lost all my contacts. So send me your number, and sorry if you sent me a message and I didn't reply.

Don't know who's around and who has come in to BA the last couple months, but let's pick up dinner club next week. I'll put up a restaurant and day sometime in the next few days.

If you're disconnected with 16 sngs going, you could lose 16 buyins. Not exactly the same with 16 ring games is it?

I haven't had any problems doing 16-20 tables on a 3mb connection (Fibertel I think).

Ring games and sng's will get the same disconnections. If you want to know the disconnection situation read the thread, and obviously apply more sensitivity to your case. Just asking people for a report won't really help you know the probability, you'll need to research it if its really important to you.

I have an account at HSBC and was not able to cash checks there. In fact, they were a little puzzled as to what exactly that magical slip of paper was.

The only place I'm aware of that will cash checks is Banco Piano, San Martin 345. If I remember correctly, the fees were ~$30 + 2%. Larger checks (+$1000?) are held until they clear, then you can go and pick it up. They told me 1 month, it was actually over 2 months. For smaller checks, they will cash them on the spot if you bring an Argie with a DNI to vouch for you. Bring your passport and such. All of this info is over a year old.

Re: Moving to Buenos Aires discussion

Anybody have any idea where I might be able to purchase some kettlebells? I posted on craigslist but got no response.

[Edit: about two seconds after posting this I found someone selling them on Mercade Libre, though they are a little pricey. ]

Also, I made a short post on my blog about a few of the BA gyms I've been to. Some of the people considering moving here might find it useful.

Re: Moving to Buenos Aires discussion

Hey, idk if any of you all have any 4th of July plans for down here, but if not, I'm going with some friends to a party with the BA pub crawl. (http://www.pubcrawlba.com/pub/index.php?lang=en) I've been on a couple normal nights, and it's been pretty good, and apparently the 4th is only 50 pesos. PM me is you wanna come and I can reserve you a spot (I'm pretty good friends with a couple guys that help run it).

Re: Moving to Buenos Aires discussion

So apparently Wiis are not dual voltage, so I went to buy a converter from Best Buy today. However they only have two choices, one for appliances under 50 watts and one for appliances 500-1600 watts. These are the only two items they list on their website as well. The Wii is 52 watts. I suppose the 50 watt converter *should* be okay for that... maybe? Is there some reason though that there's nothing offered for anything in the 50-500 watt range?
