yeah, there's enough asians here you won't have a problem. most portenos are used to going to a grocery store that is owned and staffed by asian immigrants.

Argentina (BA) vs Brazil (Rio) anyone? In terms of bachelor life.

Each to their own, I think the nightlife is more straight forward in BA than Rio. Rio is more sprawly, dangerous, but a ton more crazy latin style partying. BA partying is more European and chilled. Both have their fair share of parties and women so its not like you'll make a bad choice.

it depends what you like- BA has better food, more cultural stuff, different 'feel' (as others have said, more european), cheaper. rio has better outdoor activities (beach/mountains). night life both pretty good. i personally preferred rio but to each his own.

Re: Moving to Buenos Aires discussion

I'm currently living in Rio and have lived in BsAs for 6 months, and my conclusion is (my friend who lived in BsAs for 2 years agrees) that Rio blows BsAs out of the water due to vastly superior women (intelligence and sex appeal, Argentina has slightly better aesthetic), the awesomeness of Ipanema Beach (gives you something to do during the day as a poker player), and more unique and laid back culture.

The two negatives are that it is more than 2x the price and the language is the reasonably obscure Portuguese. It depends how hard you are ballin'. You need to be pulling in 3.5k per month minimum to live in Ipanema, so the average grinder in Thailand would be about 2.5k short.

What's the deal with tourist visas for Americans (in Brazil)? I've heard different things about what happens if you overstay.

6 months per year, no more than 3 months at a time for the tourist visa. It's like $150 but it lasts for 10 years.

sorry, I was trying to ask what happens to you if you overstay. I thought I'd heard that they won't let you back in for a while if you do it, but someone else told me that they don't care anymore than Argentina.

Yeah, I've been told this every time I have signed up. You just nod and say sure thing and never present a doctor's note. They don't care. Now for using the pool, I think they are strict about it.

I had to get this done when I was part of a bigger gym, they usually have an allocated time where an in-house doctor is available, you turn up at that time, they take your blood pressure, ask you a few questions and that's it.

Smaller gyms I've joined don't bother. But in short, on the scale of annoying Argentine regulations, this one is pretty low.

Any thoughts of Recoleta vs Palermo? Been looking through places. Assuming money isnt an issue at all any thoughts from someone who has experienced both?

Any recommendations for high end real estate agents for renting or buying? Also looking at the possibility of buying a business. Have to look into that when down there. Night club/etc..

Coming to BA from the 18th to the 29th. Are there any 2+2 dinners during that time? Would love to meet some of you.

No idea... I like to travel often so leaving every 3 months doesn't bother me too much.
