Re: Moving to Buenos Aires discussion

I was under the impression that the neteller ban applied to people within the US, not to US citizens. Could be wrong, but cant you just apply for one as someone living in argentina?

Re: Moving to Buenos Aires discussion

As anyone ever bought tickets through LAN Argentinian site? The prices are significantly cheaper but apparently these fares are only available to residents of Argentina.
Quote:
IMPORTANT: These fares are only available to RESIDENTS of Argentina, in accordance with article four of Resolution 35/2002 by the Ministry of Production's Secretary of Transportation. In the event that a passenger is not a resident, he or she can purchase tickets at some of LAN.com's international sites. When boarding, the passenger will be asked to provide documentation confirming his or her residency. A passenger with a ticket for this class will not be boarded if her or she fails to provide said documentation
Does anyone know if they actually check to see if you are a resident?

Re: Moving to Buenos Aires discussion

you pbb need to fill in a DNI number when you buy those. I once had the same problem with a different company.. Don't remember the name of the site but it was smth like booking.com. I booked tickets, then i received a call that i had to pay a surplus or my tickets were getting cancelled.

sometimes going to Jorge newberry can get you cheaper tickets right there then anywhere online.

I did and they did not check, but obviously there is some risk involved. I showed my passport to confirm my ID too, and had a story made up about having applied for my DNI but my card hasn't arrived yet.

In these case I believe they usually check. Arturiius´ story above is the first time I´ve heard of them not checking

i've had the employees check and then decide it wasn't worth it to hassle me over the extra fees.

Regarding neteller cards, they work like any credit card(well I guess debit card). Use them in an ATM and you get charged a %, like a cash advance fee on normal credit cards

Re: Moving to Buenos Aires discussion

Yeah it all depends if americans can use neteller once they're in argentina. I emailed them about it but they haven't gotten back to me. If that's possible then playing online poker is completely viable in argentina.

in order to get a neteller prepaid mastercard, you have to verify your neteller account. you can either attach a bank account or just send them a copy of your passport and a utility bill, the same stuff you send to poker sites.

once you do that then they'll send you a card and you can withdraw directly from your neteller account at any atm that accepts mastercard. you have to put money onto the card from your neteller account and then you can withdraw money from the card. there's going to be a fee to do this but hey, it's just the cost of doing business. there's only like 20 countries where you can do this and it just so happens argentina is one of them.

Re: Moving to Buenos Aires discussion

I love how you posted about the possibility of online poker being viable in Argentina when many of us Americans have been doing it for years. Truly not ashamed to even read 20 posts up.

They can't. They ask that you show them some form of ID that proves you are a resident in Argentina.

With all the discussion going on about opening bankaccounts, i just remembered what a wealthy local told me a couple times. All the money that Argentinians have goes to Uruguay. Maybe you guys should look into Uruguay for setting up bankaccounts?

if you move to BA, can you play on all the euro sites? what is the best/fastest/safest way to get money on? Do you have to get foreign ID or can you just use passport/DL (US)?

The first thing any Argentine with money does it get it out of Pesos and out of the country.

An incredible amount of stuff to do with BA is registered in Uruguay, often semi-legally.

How will Asian looking Chinese decent guy blend in BA? Thinking of coming alone for a couple of months, learn Spanish and do some nightlife stuff. It's safe if I just go out by myself and have a drink?

Re: Moving to Buenos Aires discussion

lol of course. All the main areas where a normal person who doesn't look for trouble hangs out, are just as safe/unsafe as in any other major city.

Go to BA, enjoy your time, it's a great place! I guess it's already getting cold overthere, so if you wanna go for the good weather, leave around november to april

Sounds good. I'm under the impression that there are not many Asian people there so I would maybe stand out as in get a lot of stares, etc.

I thought that too. There are actually quite a lot of asians in BA. Pretty ridiculous leaving NZ where the stereotype is that every corner store is owned by an asian and having the same thing be the case in BA
