I dont know if you were looking for specifics as to how long in advance of dec 3 2010 you can or should renew your passport but there is the information about how you can do it here in Argentina. Never renewed my passport but I did get pages added for free. I just had to fill out a form that can be obtained at the same site above and I had to wait at the embassy for about an hour. I think if you try to get additional pages while in the US there is a fee, however if you do it outside of the US at an embassy it is free.

You should know that there are plenty kind of seats in a stadium.

for pesos $200 the only thin you can get is what we call here "populares". You gonna be stand up for 4 hours with no room to even make a footstep and in a completely unsafe place. I know what im talking cause Im supoorting boca juniors every sunday since 20 years ago.

The one that I was offering, (already sold in less than half an hour) is the best seat you can get on the stadium and I sold it cheap.

Populares are the best seats in the house and always sell out first. Who sits during futbol??? Thats where you go if you really want to experience the game, though I'm a river fan so probably wouldn't want those in the Bombanera.

Does anyone know what the cash game action will be like in Mar Del Plata? Or if there even was any cash game action last year??

I was there a couple of weeks ago and they had 2 - 4 peso game going which I played in with another 2 + 2 er. It was a game full of laughs to say the least. The rake structure wasnt that bad actually, especially relative to Punta del este. They have a time charge of 10 pesos every half hour, which makes the hands play faster and is not completely out of control. The bad part of the casino is that the dealers there may be the absolute worst I have ever seen in any place in the world. I was heckled at the table when I won a big pot and the dealer while pushing the pot to me grabbed a 25 peso chip and in a really demanding way ASKED for that to be his tip. I quite rudely told him to get his hands off my money and of course stiffed him afterwards. In casinos in europe, other parts in South America, N. America, and the carribean I have never in my life been asked for a tip. A few hours later a different dealer did the same thing but for one hundred pesos in a much bigger pot that I won where myself and 5 others went all in blind preflop. Just what??? just took 100 pesos out of my pot and pressured me into giving it to him?!?!?! I told him to learn some manners and he might get a tip. BTW, its not like in other smaller pots I wasn´t tipping the dealers either. If they weren´t rude, they got theirs.

Anyway, the time that we were there was already passed the summer busy season so I don´t know how it is at peak times. The 2-4 peso was the only game going. On some of the signs I remember seeing that they had a 20-40 peso game listed but I don´t know if that even runs in the summer. It might during the tournament.

Depending where you stay and how nice you want, 5k is not enough. For example, anything half decent in Palermo is going to run you around $1k per month. Going out isn't much cheaper than anywhere else as some clubs will charge 30-70 pesos (Pacha is around 70) just for entrance! Going out is cheap, but to do it every day can add up quick. If you went out for dinner every day you'd probably be spending around $600 per month just on dinners. You still need to eat lunch as well

If you want to have lots of fun, live nice and go out to nice places, I'd lean towards around $7-$8k.

If you want to budget everything and be more conservative, $5k should suffice.

I read both of the threads and there was some talk about people having trouble getting a hold of cash.
Is it in any way possible to withdraw enough money for rent and spanish classes when you're there, or is it best to bring enough USD with you to last for the entire stay?(I'm thinking about staying there for 9 months or something like that)

You can get money out, but usually only 600 pesos at a time, so you'd have to make multiple trips. Apparently there are some bank machines that will let you take out more, but I still don't know where.

I usually take a nice chunk of cash and use my ATM card for spending money. Some appt rentals will let you pay in paypal which is a huge plus, but are also hard to find.

I've recently discovered that I can withdraw 3k pesos in one go at the Cirrus machines at Citibank using my neteller net+ card. (You have to agree via the touchscreen that you are not laundering money). Can't comment on whether your Scandy Visa/Mastercard will work, but I don't see why not.
