Las Cañitas is a good neighborhood, upscale and safe. I only lived there for 8 days but it was a pleasant place to be. I don't know much about the nightlife, unfortunately

Don't think anyone would. It's one of those places that has high rake and stupid buy-in structure, like 50bb max or something I think.

I'd have to disagree. I forget what the rake structure was but the 50bb max is not true. I know that I was buying into the 5-10 with 800 pesos and I felt like I was short-stacking. I can say that the play was absolutely horrible and the players there had absolutely no problem putting all of their money in with mid-pair. I would encourage you to run to those games to play in them.

The buy-in structure is 50bb MIN, 100bb max.

The rake structure is 5% uncapped and they rake EVERY pot, even the ones that don't reach the flop.

lived there for 4 weeks and can recommend it. lots of small/good restaurants and also a lot of bars and even some pubs i think. The appartment I had was a little overpriced, but its a really nice area.

25-50 (min 1000, no max)

5% uncapped? I've never played in a game like that (haven't played many places), how tough is it for the dealer to do that math consistently and correctly...or more importantly, how difficult would it be for a player to check every pot to make sure the dealer is square

5% shouldn't be that hard to calculate imo, what I keep asking myself is how beatable is that kind of structure in the long term.

we went to las pizzarras yesterday for some french food. It was pretty good, I'd def. go back as I love their enthusiasm for making food. Menu changes daily. 4 appetizers, 4 entrees, 2 bottles of wine, 2 desserts...total = like 770 pesos

I read nearly the entire previous Buenos Aires thread but haven't had time to read this entire thread.

I'm coming to Buenos Aires at the end of the month for three weeks. I don't have any firm plans...figure I'll probably spend the first 4 days in BA, then maybe take a bus to Bariloche or fly to Mendoza.

Feel practically obligated to visit Iguaza Falls, but am considering skipping them as A) generally-speaking I end up being underwhelmed by things (Niagra Falls, Grand Canyon) like this, and B) because I've read the best viewpoints are to be had from Brazilian side but it's too late for me to get a visa to enter Brazil (pretty sure as U.S. citizen I need visa to enter Brazil).

Will also be taking the ferry over to Montevideo, spending a night or two there, maybe a day in Colonia, maybe visit Punta del Este for an overnight.

Then will probably spend another 3-4 days back in B.A. at the tail end of the trip.

Three specific questions:

1) Is there a significant difference in the exchange rates between using debit card at ATMs to get pesos versus bringing U.S. dollars with me and exchanging dollars for pesos?

2) I know that you should only bring crisp new bills, but do you recommend $100, $50, or $20 dollar bills, or does it matter?

3) I know that there is a huge import tax for electronics; is it possible to make a few hundred bucks buying new cell phones, ipads, digital cameras here in USA, bringing them with us as "personal items", and re-selling them to small electronic stores in BA?

My sister & I are taking our 75 year old father on this trip; he's in pretty good physical shape for 75, but obviously any overly strenuous activities are out. Any suggestions on the above itinerary or other things to see/do or places to go would be greatly appreciated.

Why is this thread hiding in EDF... been looking all over in the travel forum to try and find advice on BA. I haven't made it through this entire thread yet... what are your thoughts on Palermo? Is there a pretty decent 2+2 community there now? I'm thinking about moving there in a few months from Thailand where the 2+2 community organizes a lot of stuff together and is overly awesome. Is BA similar to that?
