There was a loophole to get around this (assuming they haven't closed it off). Normally the airline knows they are dealing with a gringo when you pay with your gringo credit card or pay in person at the retail office. However, if you pay by the Banelco option (stuffing money in an ATM) there is no point where they would check your DNI. The people at check-in never cared/realized that a gringo was holding an Argie ticket.

Again, this could be solved by just asking for your DNI on the website, so they might have added that step. But worth checking out, as the gringo mark up was huge.

I once bought tickets in Bariloche at the airport itself after some online company tried to scam me into a close to 50% markup. All 3 of us paid normal tarif and the LAN manager at that desk said there is no way you should get charged more as foreigner. They always try though and online it's impossible to get around filling in a DNI

This is interesting. I guess travel agents must be on the scam as well then. How many times have you pulled this off? I was always under the impression that all non residents just had to take this one on the chin.

I always buy the Argentina ticket and then just go to the ticket counter. They correct it themselves, if they even notice it. I've never paid extra.

Guys I made a post at the Ship it Buenos Aires group and got deleted. I know it might have come of as spam but I am sincerely offering a service that I'm pretty sure no one knew was available regarding online poker, especially in country where foreigners aren't very welcome in banks. I deleted that post. It's pretty much spam and not to mention the scam possiblities that come with it. I'm not in BA so I'm not gonna take the last word on this. I talked to robertfripp and he can decide if we're gonna let you post that spam again. If it were my decision I'd say no because you never were active in the group for over 2 years and now you come just to post your business and obv make money off it. Regardless of the fact that it might help people, most have their cashaments together and don't need such a service.

A few random questions for you guys.

1. A lot of places in BA say 10% off if you pay in cash. Are you ever supposed to bargain in stores? In stores and restaurants where it doesn't say 10% off if paid in cash, should that be something you offer?

2. Do you drink tap water in BA? Is there anything you think is risky to eat/use?

3. Any cool off the beaten path neighborhoods you would recommend checking out during the day that a tourist may not normally stumble upon?

1. Only saw one place that offered discount if paid in cash and that was a restaurant in Mendoza. I have never seen it offered in stores/restaurants in BA.

2. I drank the tap water regularly there and I was fine. Most people don't. I've heard locals warn about seafood in general but I have no real experience with that as I stayed away from it mostly during my 5 months there.

It's where the locals go instead of the San Telmo fair. There is great food and it is relatively easy to get to with public transport. Last Friday of every month is the "Gallery Nights" tour, where local art galleries open up at around 7pm free to the public and you can browse and drink free champagne. It's in Recoleta and Retiro.

ahhh, plane isn't that bad and i somehow never considered that...a bit of a bit** to lug around but worth it...if you don't need it at home, it'd be much easier to sell from the US ofc..

Looking to rent Studio/One Bedroom for 1300-1500 a month. Had friend who told me his friend lived in Buenos Aires and rented really nice furnished place for $700 a month. Am I just getting tourist rates and would get much better rates if I showed up to Buenos Aires and looked for a place?

You'll almost always pay tourist rates because only Argenines have the paperwork needed to rent cheaper and any Argentine with half a brain will never let u off cheap. They ask USD and std tourist prices, and why shouldn't they?

1-1.5K for a furnished decent 1BR was already very std a couple years ago, guess right now i t def is.
