Living in Palermo on and off (will be traveling around SA) for 5 months. Will probably need an expat option occasionally, this thread seems to have died down, is there still any kind of 2p2 presence in BA?

I like rock climbing, camping, nature, and downtempo/lounge music...probably not a very good fit for any of you but if you know anything about climbing gyms or cool lounges in the area please yell at me

There is a pretty good one over by Villa Crespo that I went to a couple of times. They were pretty helpful and spoke decent English. I went there with a couple of guys from couchsurfing.com so I guess you could post there if you need someone to go with.

osaka, tô, oviedo, el baqueano, vineria de bolivar or smth like that.. All very good IMO

here is the best buenos aires restaurant guide. You can search on cuisines, pricepoint, area etc and good scores most of the time convey the quality of the restaurant

hey, me and some other poker friends are keen to go to BsAs around mid january and stay there for like one month. we are looking to rent an apartment or a house in a good neighborhood, where should we look? Palermo the best option? anyone know any good real estate agency? I reckon the people who is advertising in english only offers apartments which are highly overpriced if u compare to a local agency but I can only understand simple school spanish, thats probably gonna be a problem. We are looking for a house/apartment for six people with high standard. Also anyone knows where we can find a chef/housemaid/servant who we can trust? I know, its alot of questions but drinks is on us if anyone wants to help us out =)

Hi,

I lived in Buenos Aires in 2007, and was active within this group. Not sure if any people back then are still around.
Not sure if we met LozColbert. I am in Austin now too.

Chance I may move back next year for awhile. Does anybody know/have experience moving to BsAs post black Friday and what needs to be done to play on pokerstars?
I've asked them, but they don't want to give info until I get there...which is lame.

Thanks

You'll need to deal with a lot of crap, but it's totally possible. The most important thing for you to do is to get a Canadian bank account so that you'll be able to use moneybookers. Especially now they're cracking down on USD transactions, so I'd never want to be stuck trying to use my Argentine account for much. Getting a Canadian account is pretty easy, but will require 24 hours to fly to Montreal or Toronto. I can give you a name of someone who will set you up with that in 10 minutes if you PM me.

Once you do that, you're going to need to send PS the following.

A landline phone number to call you on.
A bank statement with your address in BA (Banco Nacion works).
Copy of Lease
Copy of Passport

The more annoying thing is dealing with moneybookers, but if you get that far I'd be happy to help you with that.

Syous beat me too it.

But the better question is why play on pokerstars when you have all of the other sites available to you down here. But that probably doesn't belong in this thread

Hi,

Thanks for the responses!

I already have a moneybookers account. Can I transfer money there from a US bank account? I believe so.

I really don't see myself flying to Canada just so i can get a bank account. So I can just get one in Argentina right (obviously wouldn't keep much money there).

Phone and lease i see as being easy. I believe I showed that to MB last time anyway.

In terms of sites, if i'm looking to play like 8+ tables of NL 6max to 6 tables of plo, what sites do you recommend?

Thanks again

They do have a policy of not allowing US customers to not do transactions with poker sites. I don't know if you can put money on there then change your residency with them and then use the money that you left at a poker site. I'd imagine they could see through that.

However, you aren't really going to be able to use it. Silly, I know but don't expect to be able to withdraw through moneybookers to your argentine account. If you don't have a canadian account, I don't know how you are expecting to get your hands on your money.

In terms of sites, if i'm looking to play like 8+ tables of NL 6max to 6 tables of plo, what sites do you recommend? probably would be best to spread it out amongst a few of the european networks, ipoker, entraction, ongame, microgaming and party. shoot me a pm if you need more info.

Thanks again

Guys -

Anyone have a 30 inch monitor they're selling? Can pay USD cash, MB, Party...

Also, within reason, I'm willing to bring a few things back from the US where I'm going in a few days. If you have a request, PM me. No charge/vig etc. Just figured I'd offer. It just can't be too big.

FWIW I brought my dell u2711 which is really similar to the 30 in terms of resolution. Just checked it as luggage, as I had the original box. Came through fine, they asked me a couple q's about it, but I told them that it was used and for personal use and all was fine.

That reminds me, when I'm in the US I'm planning to purchase components for a new PC and bring them in my luggage and assemble it when I get back here. Any advice on how to pack the stuff and what to say if I get questioned at customs to make sure I don't have to pay import taxes? Trying to claim that it is used might be tricky when it's not even assembled (and also when my passport shows me having been living -- more or less -- in Argentina).

Weird question...And mods please remove this if it's not OK, but I figured I'd ask since it's not recreational or anything.

Anyone know the best way to get adderol down here? I have a prescription in the US, but it's a max of a month at a time, so not much help since I rarely go back to the US... I know they do ritalin down here, which is the pits as far as health effects and how it makes me feel...

Any help would be great.

revlis,

Can't you just go visit a doctor and have him write an Argentinian prescription?
