Hit or miss as in goes out fairly often?

I might be wrong about this, but I suspect that most instances of spotty internet connections are local wiring issues rather than an inherent problem with the ISP. And I don't just mean here; that was my perception in the US too. Some people's connections are less reliable than others. The cable and internet went out somewhat frequently at my last apartment (but not often enough to cause a lot of problems) until one day they just didn't come back at all. The cable that connected to our building had gone bad and needed to be replaced. Afterwards, all the problems went away.

Hit or miss as in it depends on some localities about your connection, like soah said. You also get some random weird behaviour, which also depends, but generally its very usable internet unless you get really unlucky. Occasionally you might lose connection for 20 seconds or so, then you switch between the net, or occasionally one is running slower, but generally the other is working.

Hey guys,

My girlfriend and I are considering moving back to Buenos Aires, we were there for 3 months from April -> July, but we are struggling to find an apartment here in Bolivia, so yeah, thinking about coming back.

If anyone is considering moving to BA for 2ish months and wants to split an apartment that would be good, alternatively if someone is chasing 2 friendly, easygoing roommates definitely shoot me a message. Girlfriend is a translator and has taught spanish before, so if you don't speak any there would be plenty of practice.

We could be returning as soon as a week but it really depends on interest here. Cheers

for those moving here and don't really want to join a language school as of yet, I strongly suggest getting a spanish tutor. The one I'm using now is pretty wonderful and I think she'd be great for people who are moving here and wanting to learn at least some basics of the language.

In USD she's about 15-20/hr, really good value. Send me a pm if interested.

Syous, what kind of system do you use? How many sessions/week, how much studying, what kind of things are working best, any other comments?

Wow, that seems high. It's been a few years, but I remember $8-10/hr USD being average.

I study just twice a week. I don't do any homework so that really hurts me as I need to keep practicing verb conjugation and vocabulary. What has helped a LOT was speaking just constant speaking to people for whatever you need. Everyone's really really friendly out here.

I used to be fluent when I was a little kid, then I stopped speaking it, took spanish class from 7th-11th grade which didn't do **** for me. So essentially I hadn't spoken for 20 years, and then after being here for 2 days, I started picking it up really fast and was able to speak in sentences again.

When my friend moves out here, we're going to take a class at a university somewhere:
http://www.gicarg.org/Programs/Spani...nos-Aires.aspx I think thi sis one?

when I was living in Korea, I did a language school at one of their biggest universities. I was worse off w/korean than spanish so it was pretty necessary + I didn't know ANYONE. Language schools @ Uni's are a great way to network, and to meet locals, they had a global language exchange center where you could meet people (mostly girls) and practice english/korean. We plan on doing that out here.

---

I do like using a tutor. She's been incredibly helpful and since I need to grind pretty hard for a couple months, this is the most economically efficient way to learn. She comes here, we learn, I go back to poker right after.

Ya but price in USD you'd figure it'd be similar. Is $15-20 really standard now?

I don't know, I don't have a tutor. It seems perfectly reasonable.
They go chop your dollar.

Inflation way outpaces the strengthening of the dollar against the peso.

The dollar has gained 10% on the peso while I've been here. Prices on a lot of stuff are up 50%.

So really the peso is gaining a lot on the dollar then in real terms? I guess I can buy that given how stupid cheap everything used to be.

I don't understand what you are saying here. The peso is inflating a ton, the dollar is inflating, but less.

I haven't done classes in a while but I'd be shocked if I couldn't find 50 pesos/hour to your house fairly easily.

Edit: there's cute female students from Colombia who will come to your house for 40 peso an hour.

My tutor came to me for 30 pesos/h, though she increased prices to 40 for new students once she realized she was undercharging. Was pretty good too.

Hey all -

My dell desktop's video card got messed up during my move down here. I'm looking for a tech/computer guy to help repair it. Anyone know anyone good?

Willing to pay well, obviously, or to compensate a poker player with good computer know-how with some poker lessons.

I'm in Palermo Viejo.

Harry
