In general you're going to need a DNI which requires residency of some type be it as a student/married etc. I'm in the process now and will post up any new info as it comes available but I've had no problem living here or withdrawing money without an Argentine bank account the last 6 months so it's definitely something you can live without; especially if you don't plan on living here permanently!

Just realized this thread and I'm really pleased to see that there's a big poker community in BA. I'm going to be in BA from February on and looking for an accommodation. I was a few days in BA four years ago and stayed in a hostel. I actually like hostels, but I'm gonna be in BA at least for a month this time, so a room may be the better choice.
Just out of curiosity: Is someone looking for a flatmate for February and maybe some weeks in March? I'm a 24-year old german student, looking to improve my spanish and really keen on meeting people & experiencing the nightlife. I'm easy to handle and obviously I play poker as well.

45 minutes later I am on a comfy ferry heading to Uruguay for lunch. Roundtrip was 20 pesos less than the extension fee and total travel time was 3 hours less than sitting in Migraciones.

Hey I am german and 24 as well and going to BA mid of January, primarily to learn spanish. I want to stay until about end of may and will try to get some decent place in Palermo. Poker roommate would be cool. You don't plan on staying longer though?

Edit: Basically anyone who has a room for rent, is looking for a roommate for the time from mid January to end of May, let me know. So far it looks to me that it would be a lot cheaper to get a nice place with 2-3 people than alone.

I'm not quite sure long I'm gonna stay in BA, cause I want to travel around for sure.

Don't wanna turn this topic into a discussion but it's funny how stuck up you act and call me a dick because you wanna get casino info without effort. If you read from back to front through the topic, you'll have enough info you need on BA in about 1h or so. If you can't spend that time on planning and informing yourself, then why bother going there? Now u wanna know about casinos, next week u drop in offer nothing but attitude and ask about which neighbourhood, and the week after ... and so on while all these things get discussed every 2 months so it's not hard at all to read a few pages back and get different opinions from many guys who've been in BA.

It was just tilting because I remember when I was considering moving here I got so many answers that basically just said 'read the thread'. A lot of information like that might be outdated anyways.

I mean someone could read stuff from the first few pages of this thread that would be completely inaccurate now, and be given the wrong impression.

I just dont get why people would spend the effort posting for no reason but to be a smartass. Especially when you are more than capable of being helpful

They had a 25/50 running in Puerto Madero the last 3 nights I went. They've actually moved all the tables upstairs to the "high roller" room if thats what you would call it. I don't know if they're remodeling the bottom where they used to be or what, we'll see!

Upstairs is the new poker room at Madero. It will stay there.

25/50 has been running (1 table) with a few former 10/20 players. Last thursday it was 7-8 handed around 7 pm and was still running at 2am.

Rake is 5%.

I haven't been to Punta Del Este yet so I'm not sure if they spread poker in US dollars or Uruguayan pesos; but to answer your questions yes, here they would rake 500 pesos of a 10K pot.

i'm looking to move to BA for a longer period. mid-2011 -> 2014 is the plan. is this even possible as a poker player? i'm mainly concerned about stuff regarding laws on immigration, setting up a bank acct in an argentine bank as a foreigner and all that jazz. i've done a bit of reading, but i'm getting pretty confused as to what actually are the rules etc, which is why i'm asking you guys.

Punta del Este's conrad casino is all in USD. Stakes up to 25/50 but i'm sure you could get a 50/100 running if you tried, enough ballers who'll jump in the game cuz they don't are about a couple thousands. Not sure about the rake but if i recall correctly it was 5% uncapped

- you'll have to get in & out the country every 3 months, or you might try and overdo your passport and pay a fee on the way out of the country but overdoing your time by more then 2,5 years seems ridic and might get you into trouble?
- i think general consensus is still that setting up a bankaccount while on travel visum is (as good as) impossible! Unless you obtain a working/studying visa, i don't think it's an option.
