Hi guys, I read through almost every page on this thread, been interesting... I'm thinking of coming over there in maybe april-may sometime and stay for a "longer" time, how do you guys find it at that time, are you still around then or do some of you go somewhere else, considering autumn and winter coming up?
I know I'm probably chosing the worst time of the year, I was going to go from January but ended up visiting a friend in Hawaii for a bit =) but I'm heading back to Sweden tomorrow, and I already want go somewhere else lol
As for the language I'm fluent, I'm originally born in Venezuela, so I've been speaking spanish at home all my life...
I have relatives there so I'm planning of bothering them for a bit while I find a reasonable flat, anyone here that's not there yet and would like to share or anyone who's there and has a room available / would like to move?
I'm not looking for anything too fancy, but still in palermo, I'm a steady 6max player playing 100-400NL (if anyone playing around the same stakes, I'd apprechiate if you could tell me about your living standards)

I've also requested to join the 'SHIP IT Buenos Aires'...

Cheers

You was born in Venezuela? Me too, luis aswell, I think this is better time than february, the weather in february sucked so bad, raining basically everyday.

we are expending $1880/mo on the apt so it is $940 each +food+expenses i'd say 2.5k a month maybe more. Living in palermo hollywood.

Nice=) thanks for the info, yea that's about what I'd expect for the flat, but the food+expenses was a bit higher than I'd expect, but I guess you get a lot more out of it than in Europe=)

Crazy hand:
2 chip leaders of the table, about 70k each.
player 1(a swiss pro) opens
player 2 (Cardyn), 3 bets to 9k
player 1, 4 bets to about 22k
player 2 calls
player 1 opens for about 25 on 338 flop. Into a 50k pot.
player 2 goes all in
player 1, folds
player 2, shows a 9.

Ivey-esque.
Who are you? I was at that table.

Dr. Magic, in case you didn't notice, I just want to point out to you that he was at your table and definitely avoided complimenting your play.

Nice. Really, was a great play. Woke me up a little, realized you can actually play some poker at these events down here.
Yeah, it's ridiculous his speculation after the hand. He's like "99, A9 spades, 93", he didn't seem to get the point of the play at all. You might as well only had one card. Anyways, my name is Zack , I busted pretty early on Day 2 on that same table, my KK vs Ak to the same guy you pulled that move on.

So you must be livin in BA? Do you know of any other events coming up beside the LAPT? I just saw they cancelled Chile.

Is there any way to get nice 4 bedroom apartments/houses that arent incredibly expensive?

I've looked at most of the sites that you guys have posted in the thread, and while they all have nice 2 bedrooms for like 1500-2k, to get a nice 4 bedroom you are looking at 8-10k.

Understand that whatever program you use, you're still not going to be learning Argentinian Spanish, but its still of course better than nothing.

I still haven't completed Rosetta Stone so I'm not completely qualified to say that it sucks, but its boring as hell. Whereas with Pimsleur I never minded doing the 30 minute lesson per day.

With Pimsleur the emphasis is on speaking, and developing functional skills. Whereas with RS the focus is more on vocabulary and grammar. For example, in Pimsleur, they never teach you the color words throughout the entire 90 tape course. In Rosetta Stone thats one of the first things you learn.

The best thing to do is to do both, to go to google news are read and translate articles, to listen to internet radio, and also practice speaking. There is a great site called www.sharedtalk.com , where you can find people trying to learn English and then either talk through that site or connect using skype.

Well, I am planning on going on May 1st. I'm thinking that I'll start Pimsleur either today or tomorrow, doing two of the lessons a day(is this bad? I know they suggest doing one a day, but I've heard of people doing two). I will also likely pick up 'Breaking out of Beginners Spanish"

Then I will buy some Vis-Ed flash cards and look at them on the flight out and while I'm there, and also take 2-3 hours of language class per day(either group or 1 on 1) when I'm there. Also, possibly find someone on couch surfing that wants to improve their english and is willing to help me improve my spanish. This way I should be able to have a grasp before I get there, then with classes and talking to people in conversation, and a lot of trial and error, hopefully be able to communicate somewhat well.

Does this sound good?

Should this be enough?

Re Pimsleur:

I know they say only 1 per day, but I agree you can do more, especially if you have any sort of prior Spanish experience. I did Pimsleur with Portuguese and had no problems doing 2 or sometimes even 3 per day.

But really, I think just spending as much time as you can with the language and using a variety of different methods is the best-- although nothing beats actually speaking the language with native speakers.

Just be warned though that the Argentinian accent is very difficult-- I can't imagine that learning Spanish anywhere else (except for perhaps the rainforest somewhere where 1/2 the words are amerindian) would be as difficult.

Oh ok yeah i remember you, unlucky for the bustout hand. I'm in Peru for now. Should come to BA the 11th, there is a 400$ 2 rebuys and 1 addon on the 12th that should be really juicy in BA (or really close to BA). I think I'll stay in BA for a few weeks.. Where are you staying over there?
