I brought with me down here a Palm Treo that I got from my brother and I was under the assumption that it needed to be unlocked, so I bought a code off of ebay for $3.83. I got sent the unlock code via email a couple hours later, but I couldn't actually unlock the phone without first putting in a sim card that the phone rejected, so I arrived here with it and found out that the phone was already unlocked...

But I think if you use the guys on ebay you won't have any problems-- just make sure they have positive feedback.

I remember there used to be some mobile phone forums with all the unlock codes for phones. I know you can just ring the phone company you bought it with. Some companies will unlock for free if you are/were a good customer.

Yeah. That is also true. If you've been with AT&T for a certain amount of time you can get them to unlock a phone if its locked to their network-- probably the same with T-Mobil. You can also have someone who is a customer of one of those networks call them and have them unlock the phone. There are also programs that you can download that will generate the code for you for free-- but that depends on what kind of phone you have-- couldn't do it with my treo 680.

Ok so ive read just about every page in this thread, and have followed other threads about moving foreign coutnries(not the USA) and living there and playing poker. Just out of curiosity, what do you think the bare minimum would be needed to play 200nl, and live comfortably in BA for 3 months? Obviously my BM would have to consist of a min 16-20k (4 tables 200nl, never more than 5% of roll in play at a time)

I highly recommend either or both of them. I'm sure the other teachers from their group are good as well. My classes are taught at a cafe in Palermo but I know they teach at other locations as well. At one's apartment may be a possibility.

Question for all people who moved to BA:

What kind of housing arrangements did you guys sort out? Did anyone flat with locals or does everyone live either by themselves or with other poker players/forgeigners? If not (re living with locals) why not? I plan on moving to BA in the next year or so and thing it would be a much fuller experience if done this way.

daytrip ideas: train to Tigre and take a boat ride/amusement park/ all the shopping. Pilar. Tandil. check out the termas (hot springs) separately or in combination with trip to the beach. take the Buquebus to Colonia for a cute tranquil day or to Montevideo/punta del este. I guess one could hire a car and go to Rosario as well.

supposedly there are also some waterfalls within a day trip that are decent, don't remember where though.

Pilar: The have a very cool zoo, with "free" animals. It´s called Temaiken and they bradn it as a "Bio Park".
Never went there, but they say it´s nice. 40 min drive.

Tigre: If you want to spend only one day you can do the boat/amusement park thing, but if you want to do something better I would recomend spending a weekend at some cabins in the delta, whenever there is some nice weather (which is going to be pretty soon). A friend of mine has a house over there, we go all the time and I really love it, pretty close from BA but really beautiful and relaxing. You guys should check it out.

Colonia: Very nice also, went a million times and I really love it. I would spend a weekend.

Carmelo: Pretty close to Colonia and very nice also. The boat leaves from Tigre.

Rosario: Very nice city, things to do by the river. Better girls than here, there´s some nightlife, restaurants, etc. You can drive or take the train (mon to fri)

Estancias/ranches: There are plenty of them, lots of the pretty nearby, some not so much. I would spend at least one night. Horse riding, lots of asado, maybe seeing the gauchos doing their dutys, etc

Rosario is really nice,i went a coupple of months ago and i didnt see very good girls,because it was a weekday on a bad time,but i remember i went some years ago in the summer and in a weekend,and jesus ****ing christ..

Every time I leave the US I cash down to 6k on each Stars and Tilt and that's for mistakes HU NL and PLO so I'm pretty sure youre safe with a hell of a lot less than that assuming you're a reasonable winner. I have no idea about live, I dont even think there's much action in BsAs.

I tried 2 schools and this was the second... It was so good that I never bothered trying a 3rd. I've had 5 tutors from there and 3 have been hot.

I actually prefer going there because you can meet other expat students and its just an excuse to get out during the day.

are the rates there in USD or in pesos ? How old is the average student there ?

Hello everyone! I moved to Buenos Aires last week, I am a professional heads up sng player on full tilt. I read this blog a couple months ago and wonder if you guys still meet up for dinner on a weekly basis? I live in Palermo, give me a shout back!

I've been there. It was interesting, although I wouldn't really say I'm a zoo connoisseur. Supposedly Temaiken started because of Muchi's, the ice cream store. The story I heard from a couple people is that the original Muchi's was out there, and it was surrounded by livestock and farm animals. It became known as the place to go eat ice cream and watch animals, and it has gradually expanded from there to the point where it's a big ice cream chain and there's now a real zoo around the ice cream shop. The ice cream shop is at the center of the zoo.

I'm arriving in Buenos Aires in about a week, I will probably get a place from one of the rental agencys mentioned on the blog post up this place, or through craigslist. However if anyone has a decent place they know of or any super special advice I would love to hear it, I'm gonna be there for at least 3 months.

I'm also wondering about language programs. There was something mentioned in this thread recently, however it would not let me acess there website. I'm thinking that an intensive 1 month program in a class room would work the best for me.

Is the withdrawl limit still insane? I had a lot of difficulty taking money out last time, and I would like to make sure that I can take money out to pay rent/booze.

Has anyone else experienced this BS extra charge when you go to a Banelco? I used two different visa debit cards and both times it charged me like $ARG11.85 per withdrawal. I assume the weird number is like $3US converted to pesos. I must be paying like 2% juice to get cash here now, pretty lilting.

CitiBank is your friend. I've been able to get 3K pesos at a time from their new Cirrus ATMs for about a year now. Every other ATM I've tried caps me at 320/600 pesos per withdrawal.
