It is free or almost free but a little difficult to get in, like 10 people or less each year for each instrument. I don't think it will be possible for you to apply for this year, as auditions are in late February or something like that.

Couple of questions:

1) Does everyone who posts in this thread that lives in BA play poker for their primary source of income? If not, what do you do?

2) I'm graduating with an MBA from a top tier b-school (United States) in December and I speak functional Spanish but not fluent (could probably get to basic-fluent within a few months with prep before I go). Has anyone explored high paying (around 6 figure USD) business jobs (finance, consulting, etc...) there with success?

3) Which US companies have large corporate presence there?

I play poker for part-time income, but mainly I work from home as a consultant. I only work with US based companies however.

6-figure jobs would be very tough to come by. Chances are for jobs like that your primary location would be in North America but you would visit Argentina on a regular basis. I could be wrong, but the avg salaries down there are between $600 - $1000 USD/month. Your best bet would be to try and find a job based in the US that you can perform remotely online.

I do online marketing (playing poker part-time) so I go down there quite frequently and have the ability to work from there.

A question to the pros:

How do you manage to live from poker living abroad? Is this thing too stressful? I mean, you have little to go just in case of a sick downswing. However, I wish I could do the same, so let me ask you what stakes, how much time, how many tables, etc.

Moving down here and finding a high paying (six figure) job with a multinational is basically impossible. First there are relatively few people in the city that are actually 'paid' 100k. My gf worked for AMEX down here and said the only person in the office that made over 100k was, in fact, the VP in charge of all of South America. She got transferred from NY and earned about 4 times less in BA. But she said she still saved more money here than in NY.

Sure, there are people that make bank, but they usually have their own business. You see a lot of expats move down here to start an internet business or do consulting that is not location specific.

I didn't meet a single expat who wasn't working for himself down in BA, and getting a 6 figure job fresh out of an MBA is probably a pipedream in America right now, let alone Argentina.

Thanks for all the info everyone. I couldn't find a cost of living multiplier anywhere online for BA, what would the ratio be compared to say...Chicago or DC?

It also makes sense regarding the lack of 6 figure income opportunities available down there compared to the cost of living.

Arturius, you're also right about the US post MBA market right now - NY losing eleventy-billion finance jobs doesn't help anything. Luckily I have a job I'm content with, but still am looking to move after graduation since the area I'm in isn't my favorite. (Obv I'm in a part time program).
