There is this bizzare idea in our culture that CGI and a strong narrative are mutually exclusive. It drives me nuts. It's not ok to be a terrible film just because lots of stuff blows up!
It's not a terrible film. It's actually fairly solidly written and acted. It's just that the real star of the film is the visual aspect.
And just as an exercise to see how wrong RT reviews are (I never actually realized for some reason, as I have never checked them before), I went and saw that the movie that was on my TV this morning when I turned it on,
In and Out, an abysmal film about (gasp!) homosexuality starring a virtual barrage of Hollywood celebrities and quite possible the worst piece of crap I have seen in a long time, has a 73% rating.
Put it this way: I have seen bits of the movies you're talking about, and I know (hell, EVERYONE knows, how could they NOT?) how you feel about them. I don't think this is one of those movies.
