If a crack addict said to you "all I want to do is smoke crack and it makes me happy" would you really think they were happy? How is being totally addicted to a sports team any different? This movie is about a guy who has a ridiculously unhealthy attachment to something which is consuming his entire life and making him delusional.

Saw Hamlet 2 today. I thought it was awful, just wasn't funny at all to me. I might have laughed at it when I was 13 though. Surprisingly, it got some decent reviews from critics.

The Hurt Locker

I can't add anything that I'm sure is somewhere in this thread but I thought it was excellent.

Made you feel sad, excited, happy, horrified that young men die in Iraq for no apparent reason, horrified about the future, and happy again, and then sad. I think that's close to the order.

Watched Ink on recommendations from over in OOT. I really didn't know what it was about at all going into it. It's a bit of a visual/stylistic film, which is something that I'm usually not really into. It's also pretty low budget, but it still works.

I absolutely loved Ink. It starts off with a bang, but then it develops out in a nice enough way to keep me enthralled. It was weird watching it because about halfway through, I realized that I was familiar with some of the score and some of the style. It reminded me of a short video called "Spin" that I showed my seniors last year. I looked it up, and sure enough, it's by the same guy. Simply amazing.

I really recommend Ink for anyone who is into a little dream dudes battling good and evil. It's better and has more depth that that, but that was a good hook. There's an adorable little girl who plays one of the main characters, and it was just all around fun.

"Spin" link for those who have a few minutes to watch something I found interesting. Made by the same guy: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oP59tQf_njc

I also saw Dear John tonight in theater. It wasn't absolutely terrible, but it wasn't really good. Seyfriend and Tatum were all right, but it just lost me. About halfway through I decided they had pinned themselves (or Sparks did) and I wouldn't be satisfied no matter how it ended. I was right. Just not all that good.

The Wolfman

The production design was effective in creating a stylish, yet believable late 19th-century, Gothic English village. There is nice mood and atmosphere, but in the end, for me, the film came off as silly, stupid and predictable. I didn't go into it expecting great art, but there were some nonsensical plot twists that I found too ridiculous to ignore. In addition, the classic werewolf design that brought to mind the campy horror films of the 50's seemed odd alongside the graphic violence and kinetic action sequences The Wolfman borrows from modern movies.

It's not a terrible movie, just a stupid one. There could be worse ways to spend your afternoon. It's a lot more enjoyable if you view it as Teen Wolf: the prequel.

Zombieland

Maybe I just haven't seen the right reviews, but I am shocked that I haven't seen anyone else say the following:

The movie is fine and good and fun, sure, but...

...the opening credit sequence (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sJA3Sj4pfEA) is awesome, and I would honestly watch an entire ninety minutes comprised entirely of those super-slow motion scenes of zombie pursuits. They were easily the best laughs I got through the entire film. And it reminded me of the first time I heard Metallica's masterwork, Ride The Lightning, and how profoundly important that was to me. Profound like slow-motion zombie murder.

Anyway, fun movie, fairly funny throughout.

The Keep

An interesting early movie by Michael Mann.

It fails on a lot of fronts, the characters (except the main 'good' German soldier and Ian McKellen as the aged professor), the script is uninvolving, some of the special effects are terrible, and it just doesn't work well.

In addition, the source novel is about a vampire, whereas this is a more abstract supernatural entity. Can't see the reason for the chnage tho.

On the plus side, there's some beautiful and striking shots, and the use of music in the soundtrack is very impressive.

Worth seeing, but really it's a grand failure.

The Citadel Old movie, Robert Donat is an ambitious doctor. Pretty good. Rosalind Russell is way sexy as his wife. It's got a lot of hammy big speeches, but its heart is in the right place. Directed by King Vidor.

I took my kid to see Percy Jackson The Lightning Thief last weekend. It was very good. Lots of action with great special effects. Too intense for little kids but my 10 y/o boy loved it.

It's a sci fi/fantasy indie movie that seems like it's part Matrix, part Neverending Story, part Labyrinth (the quest for the child motif). It's a little difficult to understand at the beginning since it begins pretty much in the middle of things, thereby making it hard to figure out just what is going on and what is what. But once everything gets sorted out, it's really an enthralling movie. The acting is good all around, especially from the little girl who plays Emma. Although the less than stellar special effects (as compared to mainstream, big budget movies) and unusual camera angles can seem a bit distracting and disconcerting at times, the great story wins out in the end.

It kind of reminded me of Northfork for some reason...
So you just ignore my reviews, SoloAJ? This review was from 12/1/09...way before OOT...

ROTFLMAO

I just finished watching Star Wars: the Grindhouse Edition, a fan cut where that turns A New hope into a very different film by diluting the film quality to grindhouse standards, adding blood whenever someone is shot with a blaster, using tons of alternate takes and deleted scenes, and by inserting bits of dialogue from other films by the actors.

My favorite part: When Luke and Obi-wan are riding into Mos Eisley, Obi-wan describes how dank and dirty the place, as he did in the original film. At the end, though, he now mutters, "I hate this ****ing place."

Yeah, opening was excellent. I liked the movie, but it wasn't as badass/funny as I had hoped.

So, watching TV tonight--maybe the Olympics--I saw an ad for an upcoming movie, some love story kind of crap. The best the advertiser's could do is feature the male character saying, "I miss you so much it hurts."

Now, how many of you guys want to rush out to see that one?
