Its somewhat interesting how they got to this point, but not really surprising.

Spoiler:
well, it's unclear who got who sick...was the son already sick and did he get the little boy sick, or was it the other way around...we never see if the little boy is actually sick. Who opened the door? I think that Travis' dreams suggest that he is the one who was sick all along...but it's not spelled out.

Planning to see it this week. It looks great.

Eo17 was hilarious! Hailee Steinfeld GOAT. And I didn't know that she was a singer now, too, with quite a catchy pop song.

she should stick to acting instead of messing around with generic pop crap
06-12-2017 , 09:12 PM
well that escalated quickly

I saw it. Pretty grim stuff...the director staged some pretty tense scenes to his credit. Just to be clear again to anyone who wants to see this and thinks it's a monster/supernatural horror movie (as the title and the trailer could suggest), it isn't. Think of Stephen King's The Stand or The Walking Dead without zombies for what the setting is.

I read your spoiler questions and I was wondering the same things lol so I'm afraid I can't be much help.

Some other observations

Spoiler:
some of the people in my theater were saying "That's it?" after the movie ended. There were hints of a bigger story arc that never materialized (Will and Kim's backstory, who were those guys that ambushed Paul and Will, what did the dog run after, how did the dog get back in the house, what did Travis's dreams mean) so I can understand that frustration.

and most of the Youtube and IMDB comments from the derps say stuff like "OMG Most Boring Movie ever, there's not even a monster". How can anyone think this movie was boring? It's filled with tension start to finish.

apparently Black Philip from The Witch has a cameo - he was part of the livestock Paul brought back from Will/Kim's farm.

someone said they thought Paul and Sarah were infected at the end but I didn't pickup on that. Did I blink and miss something?

Logan... sentimental tripe.

But what can I say, its still the best X-Men universe movie.

I have a list of complaints about The Wolverine. But I've seen it multiple times and think it's the most fun of the Wolvie movies. Logan was great but not really itching to watch it again.

Lost in America is by far Brooks' best movie imo. I probably wouldn't even put Defending Your Life in my top 5 favorites of his. It borders on the treacly.

I disagree with both of your comments. Although I love Lost in America (and Defending Your Life), I think his best movie is Broadcast News.

I'm not sure I've ever heard or read the word "treacly" before.

Might be a Brit thing. Pretty sure Pink Floyd used it in a song in the 70s, but don't quote me on that.

I use the word treacly...but think Definding Your Life is sweet, not treacly.

Broadcast News is not an Albert Brooks movie because he did not write and direct it.

That may be how you want to define what constitutes an Albert Brooks movie, but it isn't how I define it. By your criteria, I suppose I couldn't list Defending Your Life as a favorite Meryl Streep movie either, right?

Meryl Streep is an actress, not a filmmaker. She does not write nor direct any of the films she is in. It would be fine to list Defending Your Life as a favorite Streep movie because it assumes you mean "movies that star Meryl Streep."

Albert Brooks is primarily known as a filmmaker. He writes and directs films that he stars in. You will rarely find a movie he didn't write and direct that he is also the star of. When you say "an "Albert Brooks film," the people you are talking to will likely assume you mean "films Brooks has written, directed, and starred in."

Broadcast News lists him as a co-starring role. He was up for Best Supporting Actor on a few awards lists...it is much more a "Holly Hunter" or "William Hurt" movie, than an "Albert Brooks" movie.

Distinctions matter. Especially for film snobs.

Plus it sucks A better movie he was "in" was Taxi Driver. But I agree with Kioshk that Lost in America is his jewel. But I pretty much love everything he wrote/directed.

I mostly only know Albert Brooks from his great role in Drive, the casting against character was lost on me.

At first I thought he was Francis from Pee Wee's Big Adventure.

Lost in America is great...but I love Defending Your Life. It just tickles me in the right spot. I also enjoyed The Muse quite a bit.

Just read Albert Brook's wikipedia. His birth last name was Einstein. No wonder he changed names.
