time to see JOHN WICK to end this film drought
John Wick 2 is currently 8.9/10 on IMDb and 91% on Rotten Tomatoes...

---------------------

The Founder - 6/10

Quote:
This drama tells the true story of how Ray Kroc, a salesman from Illinois, met Mac and Dick McDonald, who were running a burger operation in 1950s Southern California. Kroc was impressed by the brothers' speedy system of making the food and saw franchise potential. He maneuvered himself into a position to be able to pull the company from the brothers and create a billion-dollar empire.
Live by Night - 5.5/10

Underwhelming 2nd rate gangster flick about a story that is uninteresting and has been told before in a similar guise.

Quote:
It's the Roaring `20s and Prohibition hasn't stopped the flow of booze in an underground network of gangster-run speakeasies. The opportunity to gain power and money is there for any man with enough ambition and nerve, and Joe Coughlin, the son of the Boston Police superintendent, long ago turned his back on his strict upbringing for the spoils of being an outlaw. But even among criminals there are rules, and Joe breaks a big one: crossing a powerful mob boss by stealing his money and his moll.

Keanu Reeves has demonstrated for many years that he's an action star. I feel bad for you if you aren't convinced by The Matrix, Man of Tai Chi, 47 Ronin, Constantine, Speed, or Point Break. I'm enjoying this stage of his career.

Did you have this on as a background distraction? I only ask because when it was over for me I went, "Welp, there's one Oscar that's locked up.". He just nailed it and made the whole movie, and I can't imagine anyone disagreeing to the point of "meh".

My Fuhrer http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0780568/
Pretty good German comedy about a Jewish actor who is taken from one of the camps to help teach Hitler how to regain his oratory skills for an upcoming public appearance.

the thing is... I can tell the difference. I enjoy the SOME of those movies you mentioned, not all, but that's not Keanu's fault.

An actor playing an action hero, or an action hero playing an action hero... It's not hard to tell the difference in my humble O... Being an action hero myself, and I happen to love KR.

Perhaps you don't know what a game sprite is, or was? that comment was NOT a lambasting of Keanu, but one of the film makers and the way they formalize the genre into two dimensional opponentry.

John Wick 2

I had a major problem with this movie. The problem was, I only ordered a small popcorn, and I was done with it by the end of the first scene where Wick gets his car back in spectacular fashion. After that, I had no popcorn left to enjoy this spectacular gun-fu extravaganza.

This movie is exactly what you are hoping for in a John Wick sequel. You want over the top action? check! You want unreal set pieces that lead to great set ups for carnage? check! You want to feel like you are in a well done video game? check! You want a great romantic subplot? Go see a ****ing chick flick and GTFO of the theater.

John Wick is back with more of the same, and the same is really really good. He's not here to save the world like James Bond or to rescue his family like Liam Neeson in all of those Taken movies. He's here for revenge. In the first movie, they kill his dog and steal his car. In this one, they burn his house. That's perfect for this type of movie. He's not a saint. He's the boogeyman, and what better way to ensure maximum killings than to destroy the boogeyman's house.

My only advice for this movie is as follows. Buy the large popcorn

Oh no! They burn his house??? THAT house? The gorgeous house that gave me an architectural boner in the first movie??

I didn't know the sequel was a horror movie, too.

Can't wait to see it.

Neruda

Groovy 1940s Leftist Chilean parties: Check.

Cool 1940s Chilean Whorehouses: Check.

Not-quite Rumpole: Now a Chilean poet.

Not-quite Clouseau: Maintaining a certain gumshoe-esque dignity.

Cool old cars: Check.

Planes, Trains & Automobiles? -- Cars, Motorcycles, Boats & Horses.

Pinochet: Cameo

As with most foreign flicks, sometimes baffling but very entertaining.

Check it out.

Rbenuck I hope I enjoy the movie as much as I enjoyed your review!

The modern comedy classic Overboard is just starting on CMT. This is a great one, Kurt Russell exploits rich socialite Goldie Hawn for some free housework and child-rearing after she falls off her yacht and gets amnesia.

Went through the Before trilogy. I hadn't seen Before Midnight before, and my wife hadn't seen any. Before Sunrise used to be my favorite romantic movie. Now that I'm not 20 anymore, I think it is the weakest of the trilogy. Before Sunset was the best in my opinion, but all three movies seem so real, I can relate with the main character at the different stages of his life.
I love this trilogy.

Minor quibbles: the henchmen are merely target dummies, but it's so much fun watching Keanu Reeves unleash his gun-fu on mofos. There are some fine mid-level boss fights and breathtaking sets. I have a slight preference for the first one, but if you're itching for some action, this will scratch that itch.

Saw this today. Goddamn what a movie! From start to finish, on the edge of my seat.

My only question...

Spoiler:
Are there no civilians in New York...?

Excellent! I still find myself thinking about that film. It's a wild experience. It's designed to make the audience feel uncomfortable, to feel like it's too long. When ppl complain about it, I feel like that's mission accomplished.

After being on the watch list for quite some time, finally got around to Mr. Nobody.

Almost shut it off multiple times in the first 30 minutes for being annoying, boring, and slightly irritating. Decided to give it at least a full hour due to the enjoyable cinematography, set design, and overall visuals. Was finally pulled into the story somewhere around the 50 minute mark.

This is a story of possibilities, and someone with the ability to see down all of the major decision tree paths of their life. Has some similarities with Next in that regard. We get to see what life would have been like given different choices, and how those choices send the protagonist down wildly diverging paths.

Nice concept, nice execution. It's a sci fi movie kept completely human throughout.

John Wick 2

Camaro Fu; Mustang Fu; Neck-Tats-Fu; Seneca-Cosplay Fu; Disco-Party Fu; Stair Fu; Violin Fu; Pencil Fu; Sumo Fu; JHS Hallway Fu; Subway Fu; Pigeon Fu (Fishburne Fu (Appleby's Fu)); Museum Fu; Deaf Dancer Fu:

Check.

Duck Fat Fu (sorry, I had to do it): Check.

Acting : Seldomly deployed, but the squeamish may wish to avert their eyes when plot elements require advancement.

Myriad gangsters from myriad cultures: Check.

Their accents: Teddy KGB, each and every one.

Somebody do a body count.

Check it out.

Caught most of Jaws on TCM. This was no boating accident! haha I love that scene, Dreyfuss gets so worked up but keeps describing it clinically.

Watching Kings Row right now, Ronald Reagan's finest hour aside from bringing the Evil Empire to its knees. Where's the rest of me!

The Big Lebowski The first time I saw this I was pretty meh about it. I liked it a little better the next time but I have to admit when everybody raves about it i sort of think, whatever. But I enjoy it more and more every time I see it. It's definitely moved up my favorite movie list.

This might be a well, duh thing to say, but this is really film noir. I never thought about it that way before.

So many hilarious things, but Goodman being so angry all the time just cracks me up.

I've seen it at least 20x and I think I enjoy it more every time.

I remember the first time I realized that walter was right about everything the whole time n the fact the narrator comes in half way thru the film to ask the main character if he can curse less.

just absolutely brilliant.

It definitely grows on you. Everyone I ever got to watch it for the first time were meh about it.
