The Babadook was good too, although I'd put it a little below It Follows.

I remember only seeing it on release and hating it. Should revisit it.

Any thoughts between Arrival and Lion? I want to see the former, and assumed the latter to be a mediocre family drama, but the GF wants to see it so I'm curious if I should give it a chance.

Haven't seen Arrival but Lion is better than mediocre.

Arrival is smart sci-fi. Lion is a tear jerker that some may view as manipulative, I did not. If you feel nothing while watching either film, you're probably a robot.

I thought both were great movies. I had the same thoughts about Lion until one of my friends told me how good it was. It could have easily been a mediocre family drama, but fortunately it was much better than that.

Passengers: jfc whatever you do, do not watch this piece of partially cooled chicken poop. My IQ is now lower by 4 points.

Remember seeing a war movie with Lee Marvin called The Big Red One on tv many years ago as a teenager. I remember loving it. I should re-watch, wonder if it still holds up.

Arrival was the best film of the year. Go with GF's choice.

John Wick 2 builds on the universe they created in the first film. The expanded services, and characters are a welcome addition. The action pieces are nothing short of spectacular. Minor quibbles: the henchmen are merely target dummies, but it's so much fun watching Keanu Reeves unleash his gun-fu on mofos. There are some fine mid-level boss fights and breathtaking sets. I have a slight preference for the first one, but if you're itching for some action, this will scratch that itch.

If we stay within the sub-genre of POW films, then I would have to take Stalag 17 over The Great Escape. And, of course, Bridge over the River Kwai trumps both.

Yes, it is. It's one of my favorite films of any genre. As an aside, when my wife and I first visited Thailand many years ago, one of the things I wanted to do and see was go to the Kwai River and also to ride a train over tracks built by the POWs through the jungle toward Burma (now Myranmar). There is also a haunting war memorial and cemetery there.

bridge of spies- it was okay. one of those movies if your teacher puts it on in high school then it's a good couple of class periods but pretty standard stuff. def don't thin mark rylance did anything worth winning an academy award

outrage- pretty standard yakuza gangster movie. acting was pretty over the top

girl walked home at night bored me to tears didn't finish

night owls also didn't finish, unfunny comedy

time to see JOHN WICK to end this film drought

Just watched The Beaver, Mel Gibson being bat**** crazy with a puppet while his family despairs. This is some weird ****, and director Jodie Foster never really seems to have a handle on the right tone to hit. I'll admit some of it was moving, in a standard emo mainstream movie way.

A young J-Law is smoking hot as a high school cheerleader/valedictorian. And that dead Russian kid is Mel's son who courts her.

Recently watched the original Nosferatu (1922). The movie almost didn't see the light of day (ahem) due to copyright infringement

Spectacular movie... much like the seven samurai, there is no way a western culture could ever produce or conceive.

One note about Burmese Harp... it was a movie that was made twice, by the same director... Once in black and white, and once years later in period color.

I hate game sprite bad guys, unless it's for someone with real skill sets like Bruce Lee.
