The Triangle was so bad

Ditched Netflix after getting bored with the selection and switched to Amazon Prime.

It has some excellent documentaries, watched Seven Five Precinct last night what a ride! Its about some corrupt NYPD cops in the 80s to early 90s and the **** that they got up to. Blew my mind, these guys were basically gangsters with a badge working in the most dangerous precinct in New York at the time. Its insane watching this in the UK to think how deadly and insane being a police officer was at that time with the Crack boom.

Well worth a watch, solid 8/10.

Pretty watchable flick but not in the class of similar roles (Josey Wales, Good Bad Ugly, etc.). I'm not a huge Shirley MacLaine fan but she was fine in this one.

The main songs from Lord Love a Duck and Ghost in the Shell (montage/ending song) have been stuck in my head all week and are making their respective movies grow in stature for me.

Beginning is the LLAD song:

And finish the movie while you're at it. (disabled sorry)

Robot Carnival (1987 anime anthology) - I usually like anthologies; I'd rather see a bunch of shorter works by different directors than get stuck with one longer mediocre one. Mixed bag as always, worth a watch.

Ace in the Hole (Billy Wilder) and Nightcrawler (the more recent movie with Gyllenhaal) - reporters who go to evil lengths to get good stories. Both are good, Nightcrawler is closer to a thriller.

Akira - eh. Was this "popular" in the US because it was a violent cartoon and 14 year olds think that's cool? It's very well drawn, not a great movie though. If Ghost in the Shell is about as good an anime/JRPG story as you can get, Akira is middle of the road. And too long.

Lucy I felt like this was two movies.

I liked the girl gets superhero powers kicks bad guys butts theme. Good popcorn fun.

And, I liked the whole expanding mind theme as well.

I just didnt think the two meshed well at all. I felt like it really could have been two separate, and better, movies.

It was. See her in Avengers for the superhero, then see her in Under the Skin, for the "what does it mean to be human" aspect.

The best Avengers movie is disguised as a Captain America movie though.

Katsuhiro Otomo is the Master... Consider anything less is a travesty and short sighted.

I read this post about 2001: a space odyssey and was amused...

----------------------------------------------------------------------

8 A.M. Sunday, 12th of January, 2014. HAL'S birthday. I'm tired as ****.

HAL.

IBM.

HAL/IBM. HAL=IBM. IBM=HAL.

H+1 = I
A+1 = B
L+1 = M

So HAL is indisputably IBM. Just go one letter on in the alphabet from H, A and L and you get I, B and M.

But what is IBM? A computer company Kubrick had a grudge against? Or are we just missing a "T" in the greatest riddle known to mankind? Confused? Allow me to demonstrate.

IBM
I= 9th letter of the alphabet.
B= 2nd letter of the alphabet.
M= 13th letter of the alphabet.

9+2+13= 24.

X= 24th letter of the alphabet.

X= 10 in Roman numerals, so IBM= 10.

HAL
H= 8th letter of the alphabet.
A= 1st letter of the alphabet.
L= 12th letter of the alphabet.

8+1+12= 21.

Separate that answer, what do you have? 2 1.

2x1=2, so HAL= 2

Now to get our "T". So if IBM= X, or 10 and HAL= 2 then we should combine the two like so:

10x2= 20.

So HAL x IBM= 20.

T= 20th letter of the alphabet.

We have now found our "T", but what is its significance you ask? The fact that "T" is the hidden letter in the HAL/IBM conundrum and the fact that IBM is hidden in HAL brings us to the conclusion that IBM and T should be combined. But where to put the "T"?

IBM or InBetween Me. So, IBTM.

And now for the big reveal.

I
B
T
M

Or

I
Built
The
Moon

Thus proving once and for all that the moon landing footage was in fact faked by Mr Kubrick. Someone find out if those Room 237 guys want to interview me.

Foxcatcher I was absorbed by this movie early on, partially due to the droll tone. But the drollness eventually wore out its welcome. I think the movie could have been shorter and been as or more effective.

Nevertheless, it was a pretty good movie. The acting was superb across the board.

Seven Days in May Political thriller about an attempted takeover of the US government by the military.

Pretty damn good in every respect.

Blood Punch was fantastic, thanks for the recommendations. Far better than ARQ which I thought was pretty bad.

The Wrestler 8/10. Don't like pro wrestling at all but this was just gritty and awesome.

Yeah man, we have been blessed with some decent time travelling movies lately, which I am much grateful for Have you seen The One I love, not a time travelling flick, but one pertaining to alternate realities, if you wish... Definitely another movie that deserves more love, me thinks.

I have indeed, definitely enjoyed it. Stellar performance from Mark Duplass.

Reminds me of Coherence which is another alternate reality type movie that was fun.

The One I Love was a trip, I liked it. Duplass has made a lot of interesting little movies, I think. Creep and Safety Not Guaranteed for instance. Bright future ahead of him.

Ron Howard's Beatles doc is fantastic....definitely recommend.

The hunt for the wilderpeople was awesome. Watched it twice already. Great chemistry between the kid and Sam Neill (hunt for red October, Event Horizon).

Also watched Swiss Army Man and like it a bunch too.

I'm another huge huge fans of The Warriors. One of my all time favorites.

I liked all three of these. He is also pretty good in The League (tv show about fantasy football but really funny).

10 Cloverfield Lane An excellent thriller/drama about 3 people trapped in a bunker. Feels like a feature length Twilight Zone episode, and despite the name has nothing to do with Cloverfield.

Yeah, I liked The League a lot too. Found out later he's real-life married to the actress who plays Kevin's wife.
