Yep will do. I actually pick all my films tomorrow but got a friend who picked earlier to grab me one for that because it was going to sell out really early. The TIFF ticket system is actually a disaster now that the festival just caters to sponsors. So will see what I end up with but I try to write a quick review for everything I see here

This is a foreign film from Iceland. It takes place in the most remote area you can imagine. None of us would be caught dead living here, but for the characters in this movie, this is home.

We follow two brothers who raise sheep for a living, and live next door to each other. That being said, they haven't spoken in 40 years. All of a sudden, the sheep contract some disease that forces these two brothers to destroy their flocks. Now they are forced to work together to save their prized animals.

You see the film from the perspective of the intelligent one, whereas the other one is all brawn. The film only works because the intelligent one is so good at conveying his thoughts and emotions through his eyes. My favorite moment in the film was when he is sitting with a lawyer, and the lawyer asks him if he will continue to raise sheep after all of this. He doesn't even look up at the lawyer, doesn't say a word, and yet we know his answer. This is his life. He has no wife and kids, no friends, no hobbies, just his sheep. Of course you dumb **** he is going to keep raising sheep.

The film is bleak, but warm. Obscure, but very on point. Heartbreaking, yet uplifting. You will likely have very little in common with either of these men, and yet you will feel such a sense of compassion and empathy for both of them. This is a great film.
Thanks. This is just the kind of film I like to check out. Nice to see fresh ideas in an exotic setting. I wonder how and why these small films ever get made but glad they are. Next step is trying to find a way to see it without waiting a year.

Watched The Gift (2015) yesterday. It kept my attention, had a decent amount of suspense, the acting was good, visuals were pleasant, plot was decent. It had a couple moments that seemed unrealistic, and a couple cheap startles in it. Its main transgression was that it went for too much in the ending climactic reveal. It's basically a revenge story, although that isn't made apparent until the end. But the overdramatic ending really soured my opinion of the movie, which happens so often.

The movie is on showtime. The story arc reminded me of Old Boy.

Finally watched Batman Vs Superman, I don't know where all the hate is coming from, I thought is was perfectly fine. If people were expecting The Dark Knight or CA Winter Soldier then I can see the letdown, but I thought it was as good as any other 2nd tier comic book movies.

Saw the Mechanic 2. I was expecting bad, but even then had overestimated it. I give it a 0.5/10. It only gets that high because Jessica Alba wears a bikini in one scene.

So Jackie Chan and Frederick Wiseman are among those getting honorary Oscars this year.

Apparently, Wiseman - who has made a documentary a year since 1967 - has never been nominated for an Oscar. That's insane.

I may be wrong, but it seems as if you are mentioning your age to point out how old you are, 30 often being considered old in this modern technological age.

If that's the case, I'll point out that RBK is 6 years older than you, so if he can figure it out, you should be able to figure it out.

The Ox-Bow Incident A posse forms to catch, and bring to justice, the killers of a local rancher.

This is a fantastic film from beginning to end and the theme holds up even today. I really liked how they tied the first and last scenes together. My only nitpick was the subplot of Henry Fonda's love interest. I'm still scratching my head on why this was in the movie. But, it's a minor quibble about an otherwise great film.

If you like that... check out other william wellman westerns: yellow sky (wellman) and man of the west (anthony man)

Those three westerns are supremely excellent and NOT stereotypical mythology. They are almost Noir westerns.

Jeff Bridges is an American treasure. Bridges, Chris Pine and Ben Foster are all superb.

Bastille Day 4.5/10

Quote:
Michael Mason, a pick-pocket living in Paris steals a bag with a teddy bear in it. Not realizing the toy contains a timed bomb, he tosses it aside on a busy street. A few seconds later it explodes, killing four people. CCTV footage reveals Masons face and the French police tag him as a terrorist threat. The explosion, although botched, was set up by a select group of the French Interior Ministry as a decoy so they can make a half billion dollar digital transfer from a bank, (closed on French National Day) -hence the title Bastille Day. In a separate CIA investigation the unruly agent Sean Briar, discovers the real story behind Masons "terrorist attack". The two men, on different sides of the law, collaborate to bring the corrupt members of the Ministry down.
Think Jason Bourne but with even worse acting and fight scenes. Stars Idris Elba (StringerBell, The Wire) and Richard Madden (king of the north GoT)

Lost in America (Albert Brooks) was ok. Not great though. I'm a big fan of Brooks, so I'd like to be giving it a bigger thumb up, but I can't.

The Revenant. Wow!! What an awesome movie. Brutal, beautiful and totally engrossing. Will be watching again soon.

Caught a comic book movie I'd never heard of before.

"The Losers"

Jeffery Dean Morgan leads a team of special ops framed for murder and mayhem they didn't do.

Kinda like an A-team ripoff,but done a little better,IMO.

Perfect mindless fun popcorn movie with just enough story and characters that you stay interested.

Maybe deserved a sequel, but I guess it didn't do well at the box office,I sure don't remember it.

Bonnie and Clyde Every time I watch this I like it more. A great piece of film making.

I've never felt that Warren Beatty gets enough love. Well, not the madonna kind of love. He gets plenty of that. His contribution to the movies kinda love.

The recently departed Gene Wilder shows up in that film. Not really the place you'd expect him to be, but he's there none the less.

Yeah, that subplot was great and he was great in it.

If I remember correctly, Wilder was nominated for an Oscar for role, wasn't he?
