Movies: Talk About What You've Seen Lately--Part 3 Movies: Talk About What You've Seen Lately--Part 3

Just watched Sunshine from it being mentioned earlier today and I really liked the first two acts but the third had such a WTF turn that I couldn't believe it happened. I still thought it was excellent.

Dub, the plot was still the same before and after the third act, they had to get to the sun.

I don't know... I might be wrong, but I think Boyle wanted to make the movie more accessible to the mainstream audience by introducing a villain, instead of only having their inner demons as villains... Still remains an amazing flich though!

And believe me guys, give Mr Nobody a chance and let me know what you think about it. Also, I want to share this list of films made with a low budget, making them under the radar gems :

http://www.denofgeek.com/movies/1868...-budget-movies

The most noteworthy in there are the top 3 rated :

- Moon
- Memento
- Pi

but then the was a few I had never heard about and turned out to be good :

- Another Earth
- Kidulthood
- Buried

And while we are stating sci-fi movies, there is a very good obscure director from Montreal, Vincenzo Natali, best known for directing Cube, but that has done some AMAZING movies if not. Here is a few :

- Cube
- Cypher
- Nothing
- Splice

That being said, if there is a movie by Danny Boyle that flew underneath the radar, it is Sunshine. I know that it will not be everybody's cup of tea, but for any sci-fi fan out there, it is a must.

It is the story of a crew on a spaceship on their way towards the sun in order to launch a missile, and therefore reignite the dying star. It is a one way ticket. But then things become eerie when certain crew members become addicted at looking into the bright sunshine. It becomes a mystic experience. Anyhow, I highly suggest the movie.
If you are a big Danny Boyle fan, I assume you've seen Shallow Grave?

If not, it's well worth a watch.

Yes, I have watched it a couple of times and am a big fan of Noir movies. But my love for Danny Boyle started with Trainspotting, being high and watching it with my girlfriend that introduced me that movie 16 years ago. And then I watched Shallow Grave.

I like most of his movies, especially the likes of 28 Days later, Slumdog Millionaire and 127 Hours. To a lesser extent, The Beach and A life less Ordinary.

I have not seen Strumpet and Millions. Can anybody enlighten me on those movies and if they are worth it?

I haven't seen them but if you like Danny Boyle you should definitely watch Trance, awesome film.

I enjoyed it. The plot is deliberately as ridiculous as possible I think its far more just about the funny interactions between the characters. Danny McBride was goddamn hilarious imo.

I'm so glad The Canyons was the first film I saw today. It's horrible. Nothing to enjoy. Flat script with wooden actors. The DP and Director couldn't decide how to frame their actors so they decided on a mash up of styles that distracts. **** this movie.

Next up Fruitvale Station followed by Blue Jasmine

Trance was disappointing, the plot twists became tedious and I guess I never really bought into the plot device that carries the movie so it was just a boring mess for me. I'm sure Boyle will bounce back though, I've greatly enjoyed some of his past work, specifically 28 days later.

Trance 2/5 stars

Has anyone seen this?

Jayne Mansfield's Car

It's got quite the cast... BBT doing directing duties.

Trance 2/5 stars
I found something strangely rewarding about trance and it wasn't necessarily the pubic hair scene.

I think it's relatively easy to give up on a overly convoluted storyline, I BARELY was able to hang onto this one until it terminated.

But I give it a positive review.

Cockneys vs Zombies has a 70% on RT! Woohoooooo
08-02-2013 , 06:19 PM
Yeah its pretty good. I laughed a lot at the old greezer being pursued by a slow zombie in the slowest chase ever.

Fruitvale Station Holy **** you guys need to see it. Michael B. Jordan's best performance. Spencer balances out the film nicely. It's a hell of a watch, bring someone for hugs later if possible.

Next up, Blue Jasmine.

Endymion - On the Road to Make Some Noise

This is very niche and into the music that I listen to but at least it has nice photo!

It's a documentary thats about 1 hour about the electronic hardcore music group Endymion. They are fun guys, and they live a bat**** hectic life. People may think that glory in music is just performing and dollar dollar bills. But these people are real and super nice, they are some weird hybrid of everything. They travel the world and perform in front of crowds as big as 50 000 regularly.

I think its fun to watch and you get to see a weird part of some peoples lives.

I have met a lot of these people and this is not acting, this is how this scene is set up. And its basically unknown in the world. Its kind of hard to review it because its lalmost like a trip. You just follow along and see their crazy lives.

I understand that most other people will not understand anything of the type of how people act in this docu but its still a huuuuuuge scene thats active all around the world right now. Maybe i should throw in a rating too?

4/5

the reason its a 4/5 is cause its like a long music video, and it shows some real backstage stuff. It's honest and shows some fun ****, but doesnt have a clear narrative except a middle ground dream coming real.

Also its free! It has some semi-nsfw parts in it so dont watch it at work

Yes, I agree that the non ending twists were over the top and slightly annoying, but still like Boyle's style and loved the actors.

Also revisited Blueberry yesterday, a western with Vincent Kassels (French actor that plays in Trance) and Juliet Lewis. It is a GREAT western where instead of the hero and villain finishing in a gun fight, they go on an ayahuasca journey. I STRONGLY recommend it to anyone into mystical/fantasy movies or enlightening drug experiences...

Blue Jasmine: Woody Allen with another homerun. I know it's early but Blanchett could be this year's Hathaway.

Local festival just showed Buster Keaton's The Cameraman with a live piano guy doing the music. A bit over-the-top, but fun. Major respect to the guy doing the >60 minute music set without a break.

I'm not sure what this is supposed to mean.
