Bay's new Benghazi film is without doubt the film I have the least desire to see of any film ever made. I'm not exaggerating by saying I would not see it if they were offering $250 at the box office.

but 350 on the other hand?

From the reviews I've read 13 hours is supposed to be pretty good. A homoerotic masterpiece some say, the spiritual sequel to Top Gun.

Had no interest in 13 Hours before I knew it was Michael Bay. Now really no interest.

But, I'd see it for $50. I'm cheap. Maybe even $25.

It's as if some alien race studied me for the sole purposes of making a film I'm most likely to hate #solipsism.

Bay check
War is great propaganda check
Action film check
Conservative propaganda check
Bro film check
Bio film check

Clovis, it wouldn't have required much study for either of us.

I'm going to pay $12 to see the new Michael Bae film when it comes to town.

Rocky 4

Life, death, fear, rage, being true to yourself, changing, growing, doing what you have to do because you can't run away, love, hate, East against West, man against himself, old vs new, heart versus muscle.

It's all here.

99% nonsense of course, and 99% 80s, 99% American gung-ho, and 99% goofy.

BUT 100% CINEMA

Refined, purified, cut-with-a-laser finessed cinema.

What else do you want?

10/10

Plus, Rocky 4 is when Stallone really figured out his steroid regimen. 10/10 pure 80s bukakke

Watched Hateful Eight earlier today, and while I don't feel quite as strongly about it, Bluegrassplayer summarizes my feelings on it pretty accurately (especially the first paragraph).

Spoiler:
I'm not going to mention the gaping plot hole that the sheriff of Red Rock, and two bounty hunters living in the local area don't know what the most wanted criminals in the area look like. It's pretty ridiculous but I'm willing to overlook it, so I'm just not going to talk about it even though it's absolutely ******ed. Not going to even mention it. It's especially irksome because Kurt recognizes the sheriff as the son of some general in a state that is across the country, but still I'm not going to bring up how stupid that was. Also not going to mention leaving the general alive because he makes the cabin look better. Too stupid to waste time on.

So the movie is quite slow, but still interesting until the main characters arrive at the cabin and Sam Jackson talks about pulling out his dingus. Then the movie just goes to ****. This hour + buildup of the main characters is pretty much completely forgotten almost instantly. The sheriff forgets all his racism and buddies up with Sam despite the fact that Sam just murdered his hero. What was playing out like an intricate battle of wits just turns into a masturbatory film for QT. (I guess it is called Hateful 8 afterall, even though there's always at least 9 characters [10 with the guy in the floorboards] so that's to be expected though) The action is just gruesome for the sake of being gruesome and once the action starts it completely erases all the good build up done in the first half of the movie. The flashbacks also just didn't work for me. The narrator was awful, and this further erases the first part's build up because it just turns out that these are the bad guys and the rest doesn't matter. Would have been way more interesting if the movie had continued to explore the characters and kill them off in intelligent ways like Sam and the general's feud. Instead it just moves into mindless QT violence. While fine for some movies (I just talked about how much I like Kill bill 1 and 2 [had to include the 1 and 2 out of spite ] it's not fine when I've sat through an hour + build up for half the characters.)

Rocky IV is the worst Rocky, sorry. Hell, half of it is montages of previous Rocky films. It's lazy.

You like Rocky V better than Rocky IV????????

I don't know if I saw all of Rocky V, but wasn't that the horrible thing with Tommy Morrison?

Rocky IV was bad though imo. Big step down from I-III.

I wouldn't say I LIKE it better, only that it is more of a movie...it's at least trying to do something different, with Rocky's financial problems, etc.

Rocky IV tried to end the Cold War, and it succeeded.

Non-zero chance that this is accurate. Some argue that the show Dallas helped end it as well. Made capitalism seem appealing to the people.

This is damning by faint praise but "13 Hours" is likely Bay's best movie, though it had some pacing issues and some clunky dialogue. He's still no Spielberg.

It's a war movie, first and foremost, so no one has a real character arc and the enemy are just faceless threats.

That said, it has some terrific and really gripping battle scenes. Best I've seen since Black Hawk Down.

Had very very little political content, just a CIA bureau chief in way over his head trying to stick to the playbook (reminded me of idiot head cop in Die Hard).
