Movies: Talk About What You've Seen Lately--Part 3 Movies: Talk About What You've Seen Lately--Part 3

Huge Laurie Anderson fan... seen her in concert maybe 10 times in my life.

of note in that film is the guitarist Adrian Belew... the former lead guitarist of King Crimson.

Frank Zappa discovered Adrian Belew in Nashville in the 1970's and used him as a back up guitarist for years before adrain moved on to sessions for gaggles of artists that include John Lennon all the way to Trent Reznor.

He's quite awesome... Not a flashy guitarist, but one of great musicality and voicing.

Documentary called Finders Keepers from this year is pretty damn funny. About a guy whose amputated foot was bought in a storage locker liquidation sale. Stranger than fiction, reminded me a bit of Tabloid from Errol Morris.

Saw that in the theater, was pretty good.

Watched two two-thirds movies on my flight back to the states.

Slow West
: straight awful. Story is carried by the narrator for about 80% of the film which is just some guy walking west. While the title is certainly descriptive of the movie, it was probably a pretty poor choice. Follows this year's theme of having a bunch of stuff happen which has no relevance to the plot and then bangs out the plot at the very end and boom movie ends. The final shoot out itself is incredibly stupid. Was shocked to see this has 92% on Rotten Tomatoes.

The Two Faces of January: Also awful, and I didn't even finish it which is incredibly rare for me. Oscar Isaac, Viggo Mortensen and Kirsten Dunst, and the plot is somewhat interesting so I have no idea why the movie was so bad, but it was. 82% on Rotten Tomatoes.

Learning to Drive: by far the best of the three movies and a 66% on Rotten Tomatoes. It is a very quiet and slow movie about the characters overcoming problems with the help of an unlikely friendship. Wendy decides pretty late in her life to learn to drive and asks Indian driving instructor Darwan to help her. The story is completely carried by these two characters, but when they are played by Patricia Clarkson and Ben Kingsley then that's completely fine. Certainly not a movie I'd recommend to everyone but it was pretty good.

People were talking on here about how unmemorable Avatar was, and I just saw someone in Twitter challenge people to quote a single line of Avatar dialogue without cheating.

Can anyone here do it?

'I didn't sign up for this' - Sexy helepilot chick.

All the lines I could think of were from other movies:

The spice must flow.

I guess Ah-nold should have shown up and dropped an 'I'll be back,' or an 'Hasta la vista, baby,' at some point in the movie. You would have remembered that.

The Good Dinosaur - what a dumpster fire of a movie.

"Something, something... unobtanium"?

I thought this would be easy, but I'm drawing a total blank.

Good Dinosaur easily the worst Pixar movie I've ever seen (have not seen Cars or its spawn).

Holy Screener Leaks, Batman!!!!!!

Thanks for recommending Bone Tomahawk (2015) . Great dialogue, great western characters, tension packed. "Say goodbye to my wife. I'll say hello to yours." I just closed my eyes and ignored the unneeded gore. grade A.

Wow! It sounds like you might count The Good Dinosaur as one of the worst movies you've ever seen.

With a 4yr old daughter we are immersed with animated movies, discussions, reviews etc on a daily basis. I've gone from horror movie lover to animated movie aficionado lol.

I also did not care for The good dinosaur....not a great plot, no music and the voices (other than the Great Sam Elliot) were meh. 5/10 at best.

That being said here is my list of favorite animated films. I'd be curious if I've missed any that are good. Note - I've seen the toy story's just don't love them. They're ok to me. This list is really interchangeable order-wise but I really like these.

1. Wreck it Ralph
2. Book of life
3. The Iron Giant
4. Up
5. Megamind
6. Big Hero 6
7. Cloudy with a chance of meatballs
8. Lego Movie
9. Wall-E
10. Monsters University
11. Turbo

Have never seen Spirited Away but it's on just about every top animated movie list out there..wife is not sure little one would like it.

You need to see the first How To Train Your Dragon imo.
