there is absolutely no reason management should be worth watching but I'm a huge sucker for steve zahn.
it's available on Netflix instant and is perfect for when you wake up at 9am n can't go back to sleep and need something to watch.

also just rewatched moneyball, really enjoyable.
also fun fact I was at the 20th win!

Burn after Reading was pretty awful I thought. I watched it again after reading some of the thoughts about it itt and it still just wasn't that good. I understood all the parts that were supposed to be funny, I just didn't think they were funny.

If Burn After Reading was done by a no name director it would have 0 people defending it IMO

It was terrible.

Things that have better odds than San Andreas being a good film,

-I sleep with Natalie Portman,
-the flames win the Stanley Cup,
-Michael Bay directs a Best a Picture winner,
-George W Bush comes out of the closet,
-the next Fifty Shades book wins a Pulitzer

The sad part is, you could "AND" all those conditions and still have a true statement.

Zactly!

Serious man.

Isn't it human nature for people to overrate a bad movie from a good film-maker?

I wouldn't say 0 people would be defending it but it's safe to say it would be rated noticeably lower had some run of the mill director made it. It's OK that great film-makers make a dud. If they don't then they either aren't working enough or aren't pushing the envelope enough. Or were Kubrick. Led Zeppelin has some really, really bad songs.

He's (more or less) right. Burn After Reading was terrible.

The script is very strange, it's likely it wouldn't have even been made if it weren't the Coen brothers. No way to prove it, but I would bet that if wasn't the movie directly following ncfom it probably would have had half the people seeing it

if that's the case (and I'm one of the biggest coen fanboys alive) why am I so quick to label ladykillers a total and utter piece of ****?
there was nothing redeemable about ladykillers whatsoever.

if I can admit that than clearly it's not just blind loyalty that has me defending burn after reading.

Burn After Reading was no more than ok. The Brits are really good at dark comedies, so I am used to them being much better, like Four Lions or In Bruges

When I get the chance I'm going to watch Burn After Reading and settle this for once and for all.

Burn After Reading is great! I am a big Coen's fanboy though. Ladykillers wasn't great and I for some reason hate Barton Fink but I love the rest.

I'm a pretty big Coen Bros fan too. Just missed a couple.

Went to the movies last night to watch uruguayan-argentinian movie El 5 de Talleres. Amazing indie movie, really spot on and interesting. Compenetrated with the main character from the very beggining feeling for his situation (hes an old footballer about to retire and deciding what to do next with his life) and had a good share of laughs troughout the movie: great comedy moments. If youre a football fan and/or love indie or foreign movies you definetley must watch this.

It made my South American top 5:

1- Y tu mama tambien (Mexico)
2- El Secreto de sus ojos (Argentina)
3- Amores Perros (Mexico)
4- Relatos Salvajes (Argentina)
5- El 5 de Talleres (Uruguay/Argentina)

City of God? Babel? Pan's Labyrinth? (ok, mainly a Spanish production, but still Mexican).
05-07-2015 , 02:00 PM
Seen them all. Pan's Labyrinth I consider it spanish. City of God is great, but didnt made it into the top, and if I had to chose a brazilian film would be Tropa de Elite 2: O inimigo agora e outro, highly recommended to get an insigh on how government works down here and it was #5 before last night. Babel was kinda meh, Amores Perros is 1000 times better, besides only latin american thing on Babel is its director.

OK, will watch your suggestions that I did not see (saw your top 3 though and we obviously differ in taste). Love latino literature but am a bit behind in cinema.

Quite nitty, but might want to rename the list to something other than "South American top 5" when 2 are from Mexico.

Glad you love Amores and dislike Babel. Amores is one of my favorite movies, but I thought that Babel and 21 grams were just not very good. I'll be checking out El 5 de Talleras, thanks for the recommendation.

On the last page (or page before) I wrote about a documentary called Salt of the Earth about a Brazilian photographer, Sebastião Salgado, which you might enjoy.

Yup, realized it was more "Latin American Top 5"

Salt of the Earth was being played on the Montevideo Film Festival less than a month ago but as im not a huge fan of documentaries didnt bother, if I have read your recommendation before that couldve changed!

Dubnjoy's right, you need City Of God on that list. Gonna second Y Tu Mama Tambien, very sweet coming of age story.

I was rooting for the mighty Ultron over those goddamn Avengers frauds. I won't spoil it.
