I mean it's mostly cause that's the first time I ever saw him.

But I did love Oz and he was great in it.

Sorry you forgot Dredd, but I guess that's your greatest film ever, and transcends mere yearly lists

I liked most of those movies, but I am surprised to see that not 1 of my top 5 movies from previous years is included in your list : Birdman, The Master, Her, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes and Short Term 12.

my top 3 films of 2014 in order

nightcrawler
the drop
birdman

Haven't seen Birdman or many other potential top 2014 films.

Dawn-Apes is actually in my top 10 for last year - that omission is a genuine mistake.

Haven't seen Short Term 12 but it's on my radar now.

I don't get the Dredd reference - should I be watching that movie?

I overlooked Her as well. Could be top 10... I'll have to reevaluate.

You should definitely watch Dredd.

You liked the Raid so yeah you should watch Dredd.

JK Simmons is more the insurance shill guy to me than anything. He's been in zillions of things over the year as a great character actor, glad he got that Oscar.

Nightcrawler is next on my list. I generally agree with most everything you post in regards to movies so I'm kind of excited about this.

A couple of TCM movies. They are doing movies of the 80s this week.

Running on Empty A couple involved with some sort of SLAish 70s terrorism group has been on the run since they bombed a napalm factory. The movie finds them 10+ years later with 2 kids, one a musically gifted teenager (River Phoenix). They land in a town where a music teacher recognizes River's talent, who also coincidentally has a daughter who River falls in love with.

This movie wasn't really bad but I just couldn't buy into it on any level. The story just didn't hold up for me.

Absence of Malice Very good drama about a rum importer (Paul Newman) being investigated by the FBI. He gets romantically involved with the reporter (Sally Field) carrying the story.

The only problem I had with this movie was that I thought Sally Field was horribly miscast. She just couldn't pull this role off.

Wilford Brimley absolutely kills it in the climactic scene. Worth watching just for that.

I really like Sidney Pollack. I think he's one of the best ever but it just doesn't seem like he ever gets mentioned with the other greats.

Frank is great. I'd watch that for sure. I didn't like Get Low at all.
