Still can't believe the Academy snubbed Dom's work on that one.

So American Sniper is making serious bank. But is it it the "propaganda" film some say it is? (No I am not talking about Seth Rogen there).

At a minimum it seems like a sanitized version of the hero. But, that could be said of Ghandi in his biopic among others.
01-19-2015 , 07:45 PM
Is that hero or "hero"?

No idea about the movie but everything I've read Chris Kyle comes across as a massive douche.

I was pleased to see this though as in the movie he get massively screwed over.
Johnny Depp is reunited with the cocaine dealer he played in Blow following his release from 20 years in prison

On a scale from MASH to Zero Dark 30, it's somewhere between platoon and top gun

Yeah, politically I'd say it falls somewhere between Ralph Nader and Barry Goldwater.

I'm seeing it tomorrow. Although, I don't really care if a movie is propaganda. Some great movies are flagrant propaganda. See: Casablanca.

I'd see any AVN best picture over any Oscar best picture winner.

Cause it would be more worthy.

Just watched Force Majeure. Loved it, not sure I got all the Haneke-ish responses I was supposed to. Will have to read some reviews

Ah yes, the guy who supposedly smuggled in 70% of the blow into the us in the 70's got screwed over by going to prison.

Transformers - Age of Extinction Marky Mark is a poor genius inventor scientist and part time bodybuilder who finds an old truck in a movie theater and decides to fix it up. Frasier Crane, cranky from having to deal with Lilith and Diane for all those years, is now the head of the CIA. Stanley Tucci is a rich genius inventor scientist who apparently applied himself while Marky was wasting his time in a boy band. Lots of robots fight each other and Marky, with the help of his hot teenage daughter and her boy toy, save the world. Sam Witwicky is nowhere to be found.

The lesson here is bad things happen when you get behind on your mortgage payments.

Spoiler:
Transformers is my guilty pleasure. I LOVE these movies.

I actually revisited Teen Wolf a month or two ago. At best, it is enjoyable cheese. No way a good movie though.

Also, in 50 Shades related news, I got someone to bet me $100 it would be a top ten grossing film of all-time, domestically. Bigger than Harry Potter? Really? Bigger than Jesus?

Was watching Toy Story 3 again tonight and I continue to believe it's the best animated film I've ever seen .

I'm okay with someone enjoying these movies, even though I worry for what that says about your ability to ever bench press 2x bw.

Clovis is absolutely right. Breaking his son's heart by telling him "the vacation is over" was the black moment. It just wasn't a particularly strong/dark black moment. I loved Chef, but your initial criticisms are widely shared and spot-on.

Okay, so there is something of a black moment, but there is no sacrifice, what we in the romance biz call the "grand gesture." He is given the option to open his restaurant, and then he brings his son in to help and continue the "vacation" without having to give up anything. I can imagine he had to make some kind of compromise to make the situation work, but that's not on the screen. The resolution is akin to a deus ex machina. He is given the perfect solution that requires nothing of himself

Yes. That's all true.

Jodorowsky's Dune is the most enthralled I've ever been by a documentary.

Yeah, this was great. If you liked this, I'd also recommend Tim's Vermeer.
