You were really asked for feedback?

Yep! I did this online survey thing where you filled out surveys and got credit for gift cards (hello self-selection!!) Anyways, I wanted to get a new Starbucks Thermos since my old one was lost - but I didn't want to pay for it. So, I surveyed until I got my gift card and then quit the thing. (That, my friends, is called back-story. (Technically "unnecessary back-story".))

Anywhom - I was sent a survey with the basic plot and plan to open on Valentine's Day. My response included a gentle WTF about opening on a day when RomComs rule. (Well, maybe not that gentle. I like surveys without consequences. Hey - don't we get to do surveys on the Dean & VP?.....)
So I ripped apart the story, plot, setting, marketing etc. Looks like I wasn't so far off of the mark. Maybe this balances the scales from the last time I was surveyed at a mall before "Pretty Woman" came out - said I couldn't see people going for a story about a hooker with a heart of gold. Who knew?

By the way, I'm one for one on my picks.

And, no, you don't get survey questions for the VP, but you do get to show up at the faculty forums and ask questions.

I'm looking for good movies that have scenes set in futuristic minimalist laboratories. Example of such a lab:

Recs appreciated. No, they don't have to be animated movies, lol.
02-27-2013 , 08:34 PM
Towards the end of Terry Gilliam's Brazil? Although the specific location I'm recalling is not a lab, exactly.
02-27-2013 , 08:36 PM
Yeah it doesn't have to be a lab exactly. Lab-like things count, too.

By the way, that screencap is from Texhnolyze, which is turning out to be one of my favorite TV series ever.

Finally saw Holy Motors.

Pretty exhilarating, even I don't quite "get it."

JC, wanna help me out here?
02-27-2013 , 08:51 PM
Haha weird Dom

I literally just finished watching that

It was goddamn incredible

It was a movie about movies afaict. His "appointments" were all like scenes from a movie - a monster movie, gangster movie, drama, musical, comedy, etc. Hell it even starts with a guy opening a door to a movie that we go into. I freakin loved it.
02-27-2013 , 10:13 PM
Yeah, that I get...but why did his family turn into chimpanzees in the end? Was that just another appointment? What was with the talking cars at the end? Was the scene where he shot the banker an "unscheduled" appointment meant to show film taking revenge on the bean counters?

Goofy, amazing movie though.

I believe that was a reference to the part where he says "we are going to laugh tonight" to his driver. It turns into comedy at the end.
02-27-2013 , 11:46 PM
Well, they laughed when the pigeon flew at them.

The Thieves

This is a 2012 South Korean heist film directed by Choi Dong-hun with an all-star ensemble cast (if you're Korean).

What a great movie. It's like Mission Impossible meets Ocean's 11. A group of double and triple-crossing thieves plan a diamond heist from a casino. We travel from Busan, Korea to Honk Kong to Macau and then back to Busan. The casino heist is awesome but can't compare to the half-hour shoot-out near the end in Busan.

It's got a great action set-piece where one of the thieves is being chased down and across the side of a Busan high-rise. Talk about wire work.

It's got old grudges, new and old and rekindled love stories, gold and diamond heists, incredible action, a meticulous caper, and a bad guy who no one knows except by the butterfly tattoo on his wrist. Three of the thieves are hot Korean babes, too. That's always nice. Great fun.

That's true. I think it just shifted into a comedy in the end there. Although, it's damn funny throughout. The very last scene killed me. I didn't know what to expect before I saw it, like whatsoever. That wasn't it though. I figured given the John Cole praise it'd be more lets say "serious" of a movie; pleasantly surprised to find otherwise.

Now JC needs to watch Trash Humpers

Thanks Dom, will be checking that out.

Which one young fella. Do tell!!!

Is there a new Silent Hill movie? Because the old one was very forgettable.

Just watched The Master today and I was absolutely spellbound by all the performances, huge step up over There Will Blood. Phoenix in particular, damn. 9/10

I'd avoid Deadfall, that movie is terrible.

it was a travesty he didn't win the academy award... par for the course for the academy.
02-28-2013 , 07:13 PM
Can't begrudge them on that, DDL in Lincoln was phenomenal.

Argo though....... really
02-28-2013 , 07:55 PM
Argo was amazing. WTF at all of you hating on that film. For shame.

My only complaint is that Affleck, now distanced from the stink of his string of terrible films, decided to step back in front of the camera. I think he's a fine actor, but would have preferred DDL.
